"The process took only two days. One the first day 8 workers were at my house at 8:13am to remove the old sprinkler system and dig the trenches for the new system. At noon the crew was trimmed to 4 workers and they completed the installation of the sprinkler system. The company providing the sod brought it by truck two days later at which time 2 worker installed the sod. The owner of the company showed me how to work the timer with had been installed in my garage. They completed the installation of sod that day and also programmed the timer for me. The lawn looks GREAT!!!! I appreciated the professionalism and work ethics of all of the workers and the owner."

"Let me start off saying , wow, thank goodness I found goodfellas construction! Me and my husband tried a handful of different companies and couldn't seem to see eye to eye with any of them. We have a home in chatsworth and have 2 children, so we knew we needed a trust worth company (which we found, thank goodness). We have lived in our home for about 6 years and since the day we moved in we had told each other that down the road we would completely remodel the kitchen. And now that it is all said and done my husband and I couldn't be happier!

From the very beginning with goodfellas it was a such a headache free process. We called to get an estimate and starting from that point on we were astonished how well they followed up with us and knew exactly what we wanted. For our kitchen we ( goodfellas and my husband and I ) did everything top to bottom. New floors, countertops, cabinets, added an island, back splashes, new appliances, etc. The layout and everything that goodfellas helped us come up with made great use of the existing space. There is now much more cabinet and counter space. There are specific cooking, cleaning and prep areas. It is so much more efficient and functional. We enlarged the total useable countertop area, added more cabinets that were efficiently designed for the space, replaced the window, made space for the microwave, installed a functional range hood so that it actually works and increased the number of electrical outlets. The granite is a great improvement over the tile counters. I have always enjoyed cooking and baking but this makes it so much nicer. Decisions were also made to try to make things easy to clean so I wouldn?t be spending my days scrubbing and dusting everything. While I knew I would really enjoy the granite counters and more drawers I have found myself surprised at how much I like the slightly larger sink, high arc faucet, new refrigerator and just having the microwave off the countertop. I also enjoy just staring at the backsplash. They also did beautiful lighting above the island ( all electrical work was done by goodfellas construction as well).

During the remodel all the workers were on time which is a huge thing for me, it just goes to show their true dedication to making our dream kitchen come to life in a speedy manor. Not only were they on time, but very very respectful of our home, inside and out! The project manager was amazing to say the least! Always making sure to communicate everything with my husband and I. That would be the thing I would say I am most impressed with, was the communication . When the kitchen was all said it done we could not believe our eyes it was more than we ever envisioned. All thanks to the amazing teamwork, out standing work ethics , and true passion for making people's dream anything come to life. I am writing this review in hopes that more people can get this experience the first time when looking for a construction company. I can't thank these guys enough for making the process so fun and easy for my family and I . We now plan to do the rest of the house with goodfellas too!

We had previously done a remodel with Goodfellas, whom we love so much! The job was great and we went with them again this time to go solar. I called after hearing they do solar installations now. My husband and I had already looked into solar before we decided to take the leap it was juts a matter of figuring out who we would choose to go with. At first I thought it would be expensive to install and buy, but putting it in perspective the reality is I'm saving a good amount of money. The rebate we would get would not only lower our DWP bill but also help us get tax cut! If you didn?t know- the DWP will pay you to buy your extra energy! On top of saving all this money we also loved the sleek solar panels they offer. When it was all installed it looked really amazing and urban on our home, they weren?t big and don't stick out to much like other panels I have seen. So we chose Goodfellas again, they helped us with everything. The installation process was smooth & easy thanks to all the workers; even in this terrible heat they were pleasant and professional.  They were so respectful of our home, and time- once again! I'm so happy that we decided to go solar, but also that we chose this company. They have been consistently easy to work with and really put my husband and I at ease even amongst these big projects!"

"The concrete and gate install went relatively quickly. The patio cover required permits which took some time. Once received, the patio went up quick and the planter brick repair was also quick. Overall a good partnership that I will hire again."

FAQs for sod installation projects in Hawaiian Gardens, CA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
