The bad (which was actually probably great) is that when they arrived and looked at my gate, they explained to me exactly why putting a latch on the gate hadn't been done before (really pretty terrible original construction). We talked about our options for a while, and what I ended up with was a gorgeous new gate that not only latches shut and looks beautiful, I am confident it is built to last and not just taking the cheap and cheerful approach to getting things done.
