"Hank came to check our leaky basement the same day - only a few hours after I left a message, in fact. After examining a leak coming in from the foundation wall and the soil buffer underneath it in our Michigan basement, he gave us several options for remediating the issue, including sealing the foundation, building a catch and pump for the water that could come in, and re-grading the driveway. We found the concrete pad on our driveway is separated from the house by about 3 inches, where water is running down and in due to the snowmelt around the house and an improperly graded driveway allowing water to collect at the edge of the foundation. <br /> He said the circumstances of the cold temperatures and rain contributed to the leak, since we did not experience water in the basement during the April 2013 rains and flooding, and that it might be most effective and cost efficient if we repave the driveway in a manner that lays the new concrete against the foundation wall and grades it away from the house. Since we had already been considering re-paving the driveway due to damaged and missing patches of concrete, we decided that was the best way forward. Obviously that meant he would not get our business for the repair, so I appreciated his candor and honesty in assessing our situation and suggesting a course of action that fit the problem. <br /> I would have been happy to pay for the time he spent his consultation with us on a very busy day for him, but he refused and wished us luck on regrading the driveway.
