Small jobs welcome

"I am the president of a Homeowners Assocation. We had a large project that consisted of redoing three storm drain covers in concrete and about 200 yards of asphalt road paving. We contacted several companies. West Shore Asphalt had the best bid. They did the work they said they would do, did the work on time, the road looks great, and all of the homeowners are happy with the work done."

"They just finished the 2nd coat and my driveway looks like the day it was installed. Most of my driveway is at least 20+ years old. That said, I have, over the years coated it myself with products I purchased at Home Depot or Lowes. I always buy the most expensive product and I have always been pleased with result but I'm in my mid 70's and it's getting to be too much of a job for me. Procoat is the answer and Jay is the man. You could not ask for a more pleasant experience or a better job."

"It turned out great - the contractor showed up as promised (even early - but let us know about it). We decided to chip seal the pavement rather than replace it. The cracks and dips were repaired and then a layer of hot asphalt was applied then a layer of fine gravel. It looks great in a wooded setting. We chose not to "fog seal" the gravel (a top thin layer of asphalt) because we like the natural look and don't feel the need to have a black driveway. The stone was lighter than I thought it would be but we like it. I understand that plowing will not be an issue and they will return to clean up any stray gravel in a couple of months. The process was surprisingly neat."

"Marc and his team at Exotic Pavers completed, on a time, a fantastic paving job. Due to erosion, all the pavers had to be replaced in our front and back yards. The team was courteous, responsive to my requests, and careful with our landscaping and lawn. Marc offered great aesthetic recommendations, and estimated the job quite accurately. I had received 4 other bids for this job, and Marc's estimate and proposal was the most thorough. I would absolutely hire them again!"

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"We had two long asphalt driveways and another short one. Pittman recoated the driveways and did a fine job. We especially liked it that they edged the driveways. The other companies that did quotes only were going to grass whip the edges. Edging the driveways is much better as the coating gets way to the edges. We got three quotes and this one was was the best. We were pleased. The driveways look like new. <br />"

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Holton, MI

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
