I have a Carrier HVAC system (first chance I get, I will remedy that mistake).  My current Carrier service provider has been out to my house more times than I can count--same as the one before them and the one before them.  Recently, the furnace quit putting out hot air (of course, its January).  They came out and "fixed" the problem--that lasted 3 hours.  A few days later they came out again and spent 5 hours trouble-shooting, then presented me with their diagnosis--I have to replace the "mother board" (which cost $1200), and it only comes with a 1-year warranty, so after that--who knows.  A new furnace will only cost $2500 and you'll have a 10-year warranty on all the parts.  The furnace is 11 years old, so I said fine, replace the furnace.  My decision bugged me though because of their inability to tell me exactly what the problem was--I felt like I was being manipulated.

The next day, I decided to get a second opinion (thank God) and called TASCO--they set up an appoint at my convenience for later in the day after I got off work.  Lane showed up on time.  He went right to work.  As he was climbing up the steps to the attic he said, "This won't take long--I'm pretty good at this."  I was skeptical, given the hours the previous technicians spent up there.  True to his word, in just matter of 30 minutes or so, the furnace started working and he came down the steps and close up the attic.  He said it was the sensor that sits in the flame--it was corroded.  He cleaned it off with an emery board.  He cautioned me that there may be other problems, maybe the board is bad--only time will tell.  If it's still running in the morning and you have no further error messages, then we are done.  If there are further issues he will come back and trouble-shoot some more.

The next morning, at 4:00 A.M. the heater kicked in and by 4:30 it reached the pre-set 73 degrees--with no error messages.

I'm gong to drop my other service provider and sign up with TASCO.  Then, when my Carrier no longer makes sense financially or emotionally, I will go with Lane and TASCO to have them put in a Trane HVAC system.
