Wood Stairs and Railings - Install or Replace

Serving Ignacio, CO and surrounding areas

"Our home project started by a referral from a local door company that we purchased a custom screen double door from and they sent over Michael to complete the install. Not only did he impress us with his eyes of detail on the product defects from the factory, he also made sure that the install was over and above satisfaction. In fact, we were so pleased to find out that he is a man of many trades and has a long history of successful construction projects in his portfolio. We were in need of installing a large deck rail on the front of our home facing the lake and together we came up with a beautiful product that not only enhanced the homes value and beauty, but also shows a very high standard of quality and craftsmanship. The talents that Michael and his son, Jacob, brought to our project make us very proud to enjoy not only the finished product but entirely changed the overall look of home. His very refined finishes were beyond impressive and his start to finish was the most professional I've ever encountered. He and his son, Jacob, are a team to recon with... I dare you to compare to any other installs in this quaint Rocky Mountain town in Pagosa Springs, Colorado and the surrounding Durango area. "Handy Man" is the best of the best!!!! In closing, I know everyone wants to know about labor costs... you will more than get what you pay for and you wont regret it!!! The quality is first class and the finishes are impeccable!! Time management was exactly what was estimated. The job site was treated with utmost respect and care was given to everything around the project and left in the most pristine condition after the project was complete!! Call Handy Man, "GET IT FIXED" for all of your home and commercial projects!! Thank you so very much "Handy Man" for such a beautiful product that we will enjoy for many many years to come!!!! "Showed up on time. Cleaned up mess and hauled off debris. They were careful at taking out old steps and precise on measurements at putting steps back in. The crew was easy to get along with and seem to enjoy the work they do. I would recommend them to a friend."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Ignacio, CO

A pro can set an attic ladder in two to four hours, including framing adjustments and finish work. Complex installs—like cutting a brand-new opening or trimming joists—land toward the high end of that window. Tackle the job yourself and plan on a full day, plus an extra pair of hands, since one mis-measurement can slow everything down.

Local building codes drive this decision. If your ceiling has a fire-rating requirement, the ladder must match it to maintain that protective barrier. A rated unit slows flame spread between the attic and living space, buying valuable evacuation time and limiting damage.

Because codes vary by city and even by neighborhood, check with the permitting office or ask your contractor before you order the ladder.

Aluminum ladders are light, rust-proof, and easy to maneuver, making them a practical choice for most households. Wood models handle higher weight loads and can match traditional trim if aesthetics top your list, but they’re heavier and need occasional upkeep.

Compare the ladder’s duty rating, your ceiling height, and how often you’ll use it. The best option is the one that balances safety, convenience, and the look you want without stretching the budget.
