"The contractor and crew did a fabulous job of installing a permeable paved driveway and retaining wall. They were respectful of me, my time and property. They kept me updated and explained each phase of the project. I’m very very pleased with the company and the completed project. I highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again."

"Daniel and his partner installed new appliances and tile in my kitchen, I had new counter tops installed as well in my kitchen and master bathroom. I also used John Krause for a repair to my shed from water damage again Daniel and his partner did an excellent job for me. Very please with Daniel and his work. I believe Daniel is a sub-contractor for John Krause, but none the less in my opinion he did really good work and communicated with every step of the way."

"From the initial estimate request to the final installation, we had a fantastic experience with MC Fence! Communication, workmanship and quality of materials was stellar! Jarrod, our MC Fence contact, was professional & quick to respond to any questions we had. The installation crew installed our nearly 400 linear foot fence in a day like a well-oiled machine! In addition, the office staff was friendly & efficient. We couldn’t have asked for a more positive experience with MC Fence! We would highly recommend them!"

"The drywall work patching was done for the dining wall ceiling which was damaged by leaky pipe of the 2nd floor bathroom. The handyman showed up on time and patched the ceiling to satisfaction. The bill amount was exactly as quoted. I used the service again for a new sump pump installation. I found communication with Tracy was easy and dependable. She was on top of everything. I discussed the ways the job could be done and the schedule that worked for me. She helped me find the best method for my need and sent out the crew at the agreed time. My questions were answered promptly. She has good understanding of her crew’s capabilities and asked for their performances afterwards for future reference. The work was completed with my active involvement. The crew and I discussed the major steps. They were flexible and understanding."

"Yard By Yard Makeovers did a wonderful job. They arrived on time about 8am, did everything that we needed done, and were finished by 3pm. And this was no mean feat. The porcelaineberry's roots run deep since it's invasive. The mint was everywhere in one area, as was the pokeberry in another. And poison ivy is, well, poison ivy. They dug everything up and disposed of it. They pruned our crape myrtle and dug out the "weed tree." They transplanted two types of plants from one bed to another. They put down grass seed in two now empty areas. And they created two beautiful new plant beds, fertilized and mulched. They also helped me pick out which new perennials would be the most appropriate for planting, keeping in mind the sunlight that would be available and that we wanted to stick with natives or native hybrids. We are so excited about our new plant beds, as are our neighbors, who no longer have to look at two overgrown messes. We can't wait to watch over the coming years as the plants grow and flourish! We now have the best looking plant beds on the block."

"I would use Kurt again in a heartbeat. He was easy to deal with - we had most of our back and forth over email, so there was no playing telephone tag. The stone work and patio look fantastic; the work was top quality.  Also i had debated about the installation of a stone sitting wall, and Kurt didn't try to push me to install it; just the opposite: he said it would be easy to add later, so I should hold off to get a sense of our use of the patio without it first.

Small jobs welcome

"Although construction cost was an important factor on selecting our contractor, what we were most interested was high quality workmanship and GSBuilders excels at that.  We have made several calls chatting with Chris?s previous clients and they all highly recommended him.
Chris?s project manager was very competent - work was done when scheduled, there were no unexplained delays, we were kept fully informed at all times.  Workers showed up each day as scheduled; we never felt that our team was being diverted to other projects.
One characteristic of GSBuilders?s operational ?good habits? with us has been the cleanliness of the worksite.  At the end of each
workday, the work areas were cleaned up.  Not only was the inside work space vacuumed and cleaned at the end of each day, our
neighbors were spared of viewing any unsightly scenes of construction materials/equipment scattered around the property.
As with most major projects, the "devil is in the details" due to the need of numerous selections and decisions you have to make. That phase can become pretty overwhelming, but Nicoleta?s artistic and creative skills made that a pretty smooth process. All of her selections are very tasteful, ranging from paint colors, various tiles for the bathrooms, plumbing fixtures, accessories, lighting fixtures, countertops, mirrors, shower doors, etc.  As with the rest of the trades, the details were handled very smoothly with a very close coordination between Nicoleta and her suppliers. Orders were placed in a timely fashion, fixtures delivered and installed as scheduled.
The project went very well ? all trades did an amazing job and the craftsmanship quality we were looking for was delivered as expected.
We highly recommend Chris with GSBuilders.

FAQs for sod installation projects in Ironsides, MD

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
