"I invited three different providers for an estimate on a radon mitigation system. Tom at Ameradon provided a competitive estimate and was the only one who spent a lot of time explaining the options and how exactly he would go about installing it. Tom came on time on the specified date and went about his work. He is very thorough and clean in his approach and pays a lot of attention to detail. After installing the system, we tested the radon levels again. It had gone down just below the state limit, but Tom was not satisified. He offered to put in an extension for an additional fee of about $100 - this was not much because he had to put in more than 4 hours of additional work to do this - plus, there would be no charge if there was no drop in the radon level. We tested the radon level again and there was no difference, so Tom offered to come back a third time - after he spent time discussing with experts at the MN state government. Tom came for a third time in November and put a fan with the appropriate capacity and also found a leak in a hard-to-detect place. After this effort, the reading came down significantly and only then did Tom accept the additional fee. One of the other providers had quoted me an all inclusive fee that was significantly more, but I doubt if they would have come through like Tom. During the work, Tom went out of his way to keep the job site clean and also did some extra work to erect and quot;cardboard wallsand quot; in the garage attic to prevent insulation from falling on the floor. <br /> During the work, we got to chat and I discovered that Tom does this because he loves helping solve this dangerous problem in homes. He does make a living out of it, but that is not his primary driver for doing this job. I would definitely use Tom again in the future should the need arise. <br />"

"Anthony B. did my home inspection. Short summary: He was great. Give them a call. Longer summary: 1) Booking the appointment. It was very easy. I selected the date and time that I needed and received an email back within in about 15 minutes confirming my appointment (note: I booked an appointment at 2pm and the inspection was from 2pm to 6pm for my Townhouse. They had me show up at 5pm for the last hour where Anthony did a great job of walking me though. So, just consider that this inspection does take some time if you have some other things you're planning on doing afterward). 2) Timeliness. I was flying in from LA and had a lot of things that I had to take care of since I am moving from out of state (from CA). Anthony was on-time and ready to roll as soon as I got there and we wrapped up right at 6pm. 3) Walk-through. The walk-through was great. Anthony did a great job of explaining all of the systems of the house (HVAC and Plumming). He showed me exactly what were the most important things that I should consider and was able to answer all of my questions (Anthony was clearly knowledgeable and experienced). 4) Payment. Payment was easy. Anthony had one of those convenient credit card payment squares on his phone and he had any invoice ready for me. 5) Follow-up. THIS IS THE BEST PART. Anthony prepared two PDFs for me. The first was a shorter PDF that was a summary of inspections findings. It was very organized and included the Item, the Condition of the item, Implication of the condition (e.g. safety concern), Location of the item, Task required (e.g. replace), Time (e.g. immediate replacement needed or at your discretion), and Cost of repairs/maintenance/replacement. The second PDF includes a little more information. The PDFs had internal hyper-links an was easy to navigate. With the estimated costs and the suggested urgency of the finding, it was easy to either come up with a list of the items that I wanted the seller to fix or how much to ask in price reduction on the original offer. I definitely recommend using Anthony and the EVSMN team."

"Our house was built in 1941. We not only felt we needed to do waterproofing but needed a radon extracting system, sump pump, dehumidifier, wall paneling and new windows with window wells. The project worked like clock work with members of the American Waterworks team. Only have 3 windows and small section of paneling to finish. Paneling can't be finished until new water line is installed. All will be completed when windows arrive. In 1 yr. American Waterworks will come back to check all is working well. Extensive project that wasn't cheap. We felt we got our money's worth!"

"From calling for info to getting booked, everything was clearly explained and we felt very prepared for the appointment. We were able to get booked just a few days after we called. Quoted price was about $1100, and we were happy to move forward with their quote versus others we called. Install was great. Nick arrived and got right to work, listened to concerns about placement, and walked me through everything as he was planning to go. Measured thrice, cut once! From beginning to end, with a few snags in the process due to stucco exterior and numerous utilities packed into the space he was working, he was done in just over 3 hours. Impressive work, and very professional. Guarantee to get numbers for radon below 4.0, and 5 year warranty for the fan. Ended up having to upgrade to a bigger fan due to the hard ground under the slab, and that made the price go up a bit, but still within our budget. Only complaint is that we weren't made aware that this was a possibility going into the appointment, but can't say we didn't want the upgrade--without it our system wouldn't have be adequate to mitigate. Happy so far with everything, and looking forward to the free test kit in a week to see how much better we are in readings. Finished basement means we'll be down there a lot, so we were very happy with how everything went so far, and look forward to living in a safer house thanks to SWAT!"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Jackson, MN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
