Small jobs welcome

"Did a great job with the installation of drywall down to all the finishing touches. Very conscientious about the existing areas and worked efficiently. Installed shiplap on one wall and trimmed out doors and windows in addition to the original job he was hired for. Very thorough in clean up as well! I would definitely recommend and would not hesitate to use again. Fair priced. Very pleased. Thanks!"

"The staff was friendly and professional however there appeared to have been a disconnect with the communication between the team which resulted in the kitchen sink not being secured, areas missing caulk and small section of my cabinets chipped off. These issues may stem from me being told that from one team that when the other team comes out, they will take care of it and when that team arrives, them stating "they don't do that". There are teams that work on taking the doors to the warehouse, countertop installers, etc..etc."

"Mark Dewey arrived on time, early in fact!  I anticipated promptness, as I previously hired him to stain my deck.  He did an excellent job of that--above and beyond, and I gave him all A's then as now.  This time, I asked him to do miscellaneous tasks, such as mount a heavy cabinet on a wall; change light bulbs in a 16-foot ceiling and in other, hard-to-reach high ceilings; figure out what was wrong with a pipe draining from my water heater, buy a new pipe, and install it; and move furniture too heavy for me to move.  In short, he took care of my "honey-do" list! <br />      I greatly appreciated Mark's doing such tasks, as I have no one in my life who can do them.  It is heartwarming to find that Mark will do not only major tasks like staining a deck, but also those little household tasks that we can't do ourselves.  Especially for seniors and women who live alone, Mark is a real find! <br />"

"I highly recommend Jim.  He cam with all the wood pre-cut and painted.  He did all of this at his workshop sparing the time and clean-up required to do it on site.  We were fitting him into a 1 week of owner occupancy on a summer rental.  He came precisely when he said he would and finished on time.  We were very pleased with the quality of the work and will definitely hire him again.  In fact, we've already had him quote a price on another project.  I don't often post reveiws . . . generally only when the service was very good or very poor.  I'm happy to report that in this case it was really great! <br /> <br />"

"I don’t normally do these things however I feel like this custom vanity was everything and more than I expected. The process was so easy and they continued to stay in communication with me while they were making the vanity! All I did was send in an inspiration picture and some colors I liked and they honestly blew my expectations out of the water. You can tell they truly put in time and effort into this piece. I will definitely be ordering more custom pieces in the future!"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Kalamazoo, MI

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
