"They are professional, prompt, friendly with great rates. I had an outlet with the grounding prong stuck in it. I spoke with Jack and even though they were booked until the following week he said he would call his guys and find someone to do a side job. He got back with me the same day. He found someone that would come out the next day. I believe the gentleman’s name was Arthur if I’m wrong I sincerely apologize because he remembered my name. Arthur informed me issue was a simple job that I could do myself and save money also he would walk me through it. Now that’s honesty. I was apprehensive of doing myself so the electrician was at my home in 20 minutes. My cat greeted him at the door and never left his side which is unusual behavior for her. He played with the cat, not only did he resolve my issue he replaced the outlet which wasn’t necessary and was done in 20 minutes or less. I am an older adult so when I need work done price gouging is a concern however the final cost was beyond reasonable. I feel as though I robbed him. I highly recommend Blazer Electric Company!"

"I'm glad we hired A and Z. Barry Goldstein gave us a call and come to our residence to look at the work needed. Barry is a great and sincere person and we enjoy the small talk but got to business. We were in need of GFCI electric switches in the kitchen, bathroom, and other areas. Plus, we need new electrical outlets in our closets in both bedrooms and have the pulley taken out, and ad a fixture on the outside of the closet. We also had a hazard with the powerline where the clamps that are attached to the outside wall of the house were hanging out. Plus the kitchen exhaust fan and the ceiling fan needed to be installed and they did. The crew explained what is expected in the process and the price. They placed it back to her tight in order for us to get COMED to fix the wiring. They came and fixed the job and did it cleanly and professionally. The crew was great to talk to and we felt they value customer service no matter what the job. We like their overall work and are responsive. I recommend A to Z for anyone looking for small to big jobs. Great job they did."

"Daniel addressed a not so straightforward switch replacement that I had botched. Not only did have to install it right but also had to diagnose and replace the circuit breaker in the panel. He also had to further diagnose a wire that had been melted and address that as well. He showed great problem solving skills, cleaned up and was extremely professional and friendly. Even though the job took much longer than expected, he still only charged what he had initially stated. Would hire again."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Kenilworth, IL

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
