"I've used Ideal twice in the past, and they were my first call for this project. I discovered late at night that our water heater had shut off. When I was unable to relight it, I called Ideal. Their answering service took down my information, and I received a call from a technician within about 15 minutes. He offered to come that night, but given the after-hours minimum ($250), I opted to have a technician come out in the morning.
Since I already had them on the phone, I also asked to schedule a technician to come look at my A/C, which was overdue for service. I was able to get both appointments within the same 3-hour window.
(1) A/C Service. Keith, the technician for the A/C arrived first. Within about 30 seconds of looking at my furnace, he said, and quot;You need more freon, but I'll test it to confirm.and quot; After examining the furnace and blower, he went out to the compressor unit. After his diagnostic testing, he confirmed that it needed and quot;rechargedand quot; and promptly brought out a tank of freon to recharge it. During the servicing, I learned a ton about my unit, options for new units (mine is 20+ years old) and the service he was performing. A short time later, after he had cleaned the compressor unit and confirmed the recharge was successful, he finished up the paperwork and was on his way.
(2) Water Heater. Pete, the technician for the water heater arrived just after Keith left. Pete quickly examined the water heater and began relighting the pilot without trouble. Feeling like an idiot for being unable to do that last night, I made him turn it off and let me practice relighting it. This time, however, neither he, nor I could get it going. My piezoelectric ignition was not working great, so lighting it was more of a challenge than it should have been. After discussing that the pilot could be lit manually, we went ahead and lit it using a torch. He gave me the option of replacing the thermocouple, and I decided to have that done since he was already at my house. He replaced the part and cleaned other parts of the heater. I learned a tremendous amount about the heater (including that it could have significant life left!) and was very thankful for his help.
