"Wedgeworth was very professional. Their tech was very nice and explained everything. Wore booties over his shoes and laid down a catch blanket and paper towels to avoid a mess. All equipment came in with booties as well. Left with the drain clear and did multiple tests to verify as well as informing me of their warranty in case a problem arose. Checked on multiple other things I was curious about and provided a quote where appropriate. Also informed me of things I could do myself that didn't require a professional. Very pleased with their service."

"Needed a 14-year old water heater replaced as it was original to the house.  Logged on to Angie's List to research plumbers in the area.  Used Angie's List email to contact several "A" rated plumbers.  Two replied with phone numbers for me to call, but no written answers to my questions or a written quote.  Two others replied with written answers to my questions along with a written quote.  However, only Lee Frankum with Bay Coast Plumbing (BCP) mentioned that his quoted price was all inclusive, no hidden fees, and that included pulling a permit with the city and having a city building inspector come to the house to green tag his work as REQUIRED by League City.  Now, I'm a stickler for city building code regulation especially when natural gas is involved.  And there was a $50 coupon on BCP's Angie's List page.  Of course, Bay Coast Plumbing got my business!  The guys showed up on time, worked diligently in a hot attic (I gave them each a bottle of water), and they took $50 off the quoted price due to the coupon.  Later that day, Lee Frankum called me to confirm that the city code inspector would be coming by on Monday.  Sure enough, it is Monday and the city code inspector just green-tagged BCP's work.  Am very satisfied!

"The job started well. Good price, got the quote in a timely manner, and the work was started right on time. However the issues initially started while waiting for the city inspection. Apparently the proper permitting was not done correctly, and because of this we had to wait over two weeks to have the trenches filled in. This caused many issues, the main one being all of the dead grass. The grass that was removed for the trenching was left mixed into piles of dirt for weeks, leaving nothing alive, as well as killing off the grass in the areas the dirt was piled up. After two weeks we managed to get the workers back out to start filling in the ditches. The workers were unable to fully complete the fill in that afternoon, and told me they would need more time to accomplish this. I spoke with their workers, as well as multiple calls with the secretary, and was told that they had approved new sod for the trenches as their long delay had directly caused all the previous grass to long since die. After almost another week without the work being completed, we were charged the final balance on the work, even though the work was not yet completed. After calling the manager, we were told that he "did not realize the job was not completed." We were also told that we were not approved for sod, that they never do sod, and that it was not their responsibility if the grass lives or dies. Under normal circumstances I would agree that sod can sometimes die once dug out and then relaid. However when grass is buried in dirt for almost three weeks while we wait to fix permitting issues and multiple calls to get them back out to complete their work I felt that this was not your usual circumstances. I was most disappointed that we were told by both their workers and their secretary that the new sod had been approved, but then that was not honored. The final work filling in the trenches was not done very well, I am having to hire someone else to come and level things out and lay new sod. It is because of the lack of communication and the lack of care or concern for my yard that I have chosen to leave this review, and have decided to not use this company for the rest of the plumbing work I had quoted."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in La Porte, TX

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
