"The guys came out within a day or two of my initial call and spent quite a bit of time explaining what they would do. They were patient and seemed very knowledgeable. Their solution involved routing the exhaust through the garage and garage attic and out the roof, which would be much more attractive and less subject to weather extremes than routing the exhaust pipe along the exterior of the house. After I gave them the go ahead, they were able to schedule the work within 1-2 weeks. They arrived on time and were very efficient, finishing a little earlier than I had expected. In addition to the radon remediation they patched a foundation crack for considerably less money than companies that specialize in foundation repair."

"Inspection was done professionally, and he did a thorough job, I was provided a detailed report afterwards. I wasn't going to do a Radon test, but glad I did - the reading was a 16. After mitigation, level came down to 1.5"

"Ron was very responsive and was able to get the equipment delivered and installed with short notice. He engaged us in some conversation and clearly loves what he does. His associate returned 48 hours later to retrieve the machines and Ron called us the following day for payment and to provide the results. Our home tested in the 4-6 picocurie range which is above the action level of 4. Ron emailed detail results which showed the measurement by hour and by location, information about radon, and information about remediation (including referrals to local providers). He also included information regarding the legal aspects of radon as it relates to testers and remediators. Definitely recommended. This guy lives to do radon testing!"

"This is the second time we've used Mr. Lisse. He was first recommended to us by our realtor as "the guy he would use if he were buying a new house". Jeff performs a very thorough inspection of every part of the house. He invites the prospective homebuyer to follow along throughout the whole process as he points out every high and low point of the property. He takes many pictures during the process and delivers an incredibly detailed report outlining all potential concerns, along with his recommendations on how to best go about remedying them. He also works closely with another company that provides radon testing services and can arrange for that service (at an additional charge) to take place concurrently with the inspection. <br /> <br />I believe we may have received a repeat customer discount of around $50, so the price quoted above may be lower than what might be expected for new clients, but no matter the price, this is the guy you want to check things out for you before you invest your savings in a new home. <br /> <br />Highly recommended."

"The entire process was very smooth. The website is extremely easy to use and has a great user interface for scheduling appointments, reading about the inspectors, and viewing/sharing reports. William showed up early for the inspection and was extremely thorough. He took pictures of everything, and he provided me with explanations as we walked through the house of good things and bad things. His report was thorough and very well documented. The inspection took about 1.5 hours. As he was finishing up, the radon testing agent showed up and had everything set up within 10 minutes. I received the home inspection report two (2) business days after the inspection, as promised by William. For the home inspection with radon test, it was $825, but I felt it was worth it considering the magnitude of the purchase!"

"After hearing about Marvel radon from a friend, we decided to get our home tested and found that we had high levels!! The same friend recommended Charles, and it was easy to see why. He and his team were professional and did a great job. Our radon levels have dropped below the EPA action levels, and we will certainly recommend Marvel Radon Experts to others who have not gotten radon testing and mitigation done!"

"Poorly.   Inspection was fine, but not including radon test made it more expensive than other providers which was determined only after inspection started.   Inspector wouldn't / couldn't (not sure which) do radon test themselves so they called their radon test person who refused to come out to the house indicating it was "too far".   While the home inspection was fine, they didn't move furniture or do a deeper inspection as some of the other reviews referenced.   Generally it's a newer home so inspection was fine, but extremely disappointed with the radon situation and how it was handled - hence the F for professionalism.   Had to go to a different provider for radon and spend far more than we would have for a combined radon test. <br />"

"Dave Masa was first recommended by our realtor. I then had a meeting with an attorney who also offered his name as the go to guy for this type of work. I then checked Angie's list and found that others also thought highly of the work performed by Radon Reduction Systems. We received both a verbal and detailed written bid for an external system that was accepted. I was particularily impressed with his written promise that his work would be honored (warrantied) for five years and would extend to the new home owner following the home sale. <br /> A few days after Dave's inspection, I asked him to return to our home to review the possibility of installing an interior system. Not only did we he believe the interior system would be feasible, he indicated that the price would not change. We're delighted with the result. It is easy to describe the work performed. It was efficient, timely, and professional in quality. Care was taken to place the piping in areas that did not interfere with daily living. The work was completed (by 2 people) in approximately 4 1/2 hrs. <br />"

"I waited a month before getting a test kit I called and was told there was something wrong with the Angies list orders but that I would be receiving a kit soon. It wouldve ben nice if they called me to tell me that though. The test results were quick and on par with other radon test I had done locally."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Lansing, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
