"I had a water leak from my ice maker. The water line had a pin size hole in it and was leaking downward thru the floor. Once I realized the issue. I had a 6x6 section of flooring to be replaced. I also had sub-flooring, drywall and insulation that needed to be replaced. My insurance suggested I bring in a specialist. Because of the potential of mold. I called Patrick at Mold Removal & Solutions. Patrick came to the house the same day and gave me a quote. A couple days later Patrick started working and was finished in about three days. This is the second time I used Mold Removal and Solutions. Patrick and his crew were always on time and professional. I would recommend Patrick to anyone."

"I contacted Southside Mold Testing & Cleanouts after I noticed some possible mold in the ceiling from a busted water pipe. Brian arrived on time and explained the process that was involved in testing for any possible mold. He was extremely knowledgable, friendly and courteous...and he let us know the results of the test fairly quickly."

Small jobs welcome

"Overall was good for what the service is. The technician was a postal worker and home inspector. So mold test company appears to be brokers. Their pricing was competitive from other quotes I received but I honestly think it was pricey for time spent and what they do. But like I said the price was pretty standard from the companies I called, in my opinion. But the technician was attentive and knowledgeable, and friendly."

"Bluestone was very professional and prompt. We found a small amount of unknown insulation material when demoing a garage man door. Worried it might be asbestos, we called bluestone to come test it/provide a quote for removal. Ron came out and after inspecting it told me he would test it if we wanted him to but that he was 99% sure it was just fiberglass insulation based on a visual inspection and the age of the garage. He gave us tips on removing it ourselves. We will definitely call bluestone again if we discover anything else."

"Kevin did a great job. He came out quick (same day Saturday), completed a thorough assessment, provided excellent advice (not only mold, but other house maintenance issues) and offered a competitive price. I would refer Kevin to anyone."

"The company sent a packet with instructions to provide samples from two sites. We returned these in the Priority envelope provided. Within a few days we received an evaluation of the mold. It does not appear to be a serious problem. I would have graded this work higher if the company had provided general guidelines for remediating the problem. We were relieved to find the problem not serious, but would have appreciated more clarity, such as a simple page outlining safe and unsafe do-it-yourself procedures materials materials. (Suggestions I found online, such as whether to use vinegar, bleach, etc., were sometimes confusing, even contradictory.)"

"If you ever suspect you have toxic mold START the process with a seasoned MOLD professional, Curt.  Do not go with a generic home inspection company. <br /> I was in a situation where we were starting to cycle thru mold testing cycles - it was getting very expensive (at ~ $500 a pop) and we were not getting any guidance about where the source of the mold could be from the testing company - just that the results say there is toxic mold. <br /> Curt was able to guide me  - tell me what most likely happened, what to do / what not to do, and guide the mold remediation so we could be clear that we had cleaned up fully - so we would know if there was an additional source of mold.  As a result of his guidance - we were able to completely clean up all the mold and get out of the cycle of mold testing. <br /> In hindsight, I wish I had known about Curt and would have used him for the MOLD testing because he provided clear guidance about how to handle the situation.  I did not get this from the existing home inspection company that was doing the testing. <br /> As I had already started with an existing home inspection company, it didn't make sense to switch companies at the point we were in the process.  Curt guided me and didn't charge me for his guidance.   <br /> Curt is a true professional and knows his business. It was a pleasure to work with him. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for mold & toxic material test projects in Lansing, IL

Some companies offer a no‑cost phone or video consultation that screens for red flags. If the discussion points to a real issue, the pro will recommend a paid on‑site inspection. The complimentary call clarifies whether you need full testing, but it isn’t a substitute for samples, lab work, or a written report. Always confirm what the free service covers before you schedule.

A standard inspection, which includes basic air and surface samples, takes an average of two hours. If the pro needs to probe hidden spaces, such as wall cavities or ductwork, plan on up to six hours. Extra time allows the inspector to reach tight areas, collect additional samples, and document findings. Lab analysis is a separate process and often adds several business days to the overall timeframe before you receive the full report.

Mold thrives where moisture lingers and air flow is poor. Common hotspots include bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, window sills, HVAC vents, fireplaces, crawl spaces, and enclosed attics. Check these areas regularly—especially after leaks or high‑humidity weather—to catch growth early and avoid costly repairs.

Unchecked mold can knock 20% to 37% off a home’s market value because buyers worry about hidden damage and health risks. Even after remediation, visible staining or a history of major moisture issues can still lower offers and prolong the time on the market. Addressing mold quickly protects both your property’s structural integrity and its resale appeal.
