"I've used Domicile Consulting for several homes, after initially finding the company on Angie's List. Dan Cullen is exceptionally knowledgeable, objective and insightful. Prices are reasonable and well worth the investment. Dan takes copious pictures and compiles them in a handy report with recommendations. Highly recommended."

"We had the pleasure of working with Michael Gennett from MJG Home Inspections, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. Michael is incredibly thorough—there wasn’t a single question he didn’t have a clear, informed answer to. He encouraged us to ask as many questions as we wanted during the inspection and made sure we fully understood what we were seeing, which gave us a ton of confidence going into the purchase. He’s clearly an expert in older Chicago homes, which often come with their own unique quirks and issues. Michael spotted things we never would have noticed and gave thoughtful, practical advice on each item. Even after the inspection, he remained responsive and available for follow-up questions—something we really appreciated. His inspection report was fantastic: incredibly detailed, well-organized, and easy to follow. We shared it with several contractors for estimates, and every single one commented on how thorough and professional it was. If you're looking for a reliable, meticulous inspector—especially for older homes in the Chicago area—look no further than MJG Home Inspections. Michael is truly top-tier."

"Steve Gavin, the owner came out and provided me with a great price that was inclusive of the entire scope of the project. During our meeting he took the time to explain the process that his company uses. Once the permits were issued the crew arrived the next morning at 7:00 a.m. as promised. The crew met the deadline for a 1:30 inspection from the Village of Deerfield. They not only met the deadline but they passed the inspection without any issues to be corrected. The crew worked until 7:00 p.m. completing the job. I would also note that they left my home spotless!"

"I got bids from 3 top AngiesList firms, chose this one because they were professional, responsive, and a relative had a good experience with them. They were willing to reasonably price-match my lowest bid and scheduled me even quicker than I really needed. Israel did the excellent work, completely and cleanly. I recommend them."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Lansing, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
