"I recently purchased a foreclosure which tested with elevated levels of Radon during the home inspection. There were some companies that offered significantly less expensive solutions, but not impressed as their bids provided no information and would have been out the basement and up the side of the home which does not look very nice. Midwest Radom came out and we found a route out the basement, through the garage up through unfinished attic space, and out the roof which allowed the exit pipe to come out the roof on the backside of the home. This was actually decided upon during the initial install when we discovered the original solution presented by the estimator was not workable. They were not going to put firestop collars because I live in MO and "that is not required by code" even though I had discussed it with the owner when I first called, because I had done my homework and learned they are important and asked for them. They were going to charge more, but ended up honoring their original offer which I appreciate and feel is reasonable for some 4" PVC pipe, 2 X 2 plastic sheet, 4" radon fan, vacuum gauge, 2 fire collars, and 1 roof penetration flashing with 3-4 hours of labor with 2 technicians. They had to do a penetration from the basement to the garage and from the garage to the attic space. They pulled from an existing outlet for power for the fan and a final penetration out the roof. It took 2 trips to complete the work because it was raining or snowing the first trip they made. They charged $1005.00 for the job and took less than 4 hours to complete. They also performed a follow-up test which showed a decrease in Radon levels in the safe range. I highly recommend Midwest Radon because their price was fair for a good job done to my expectations based on industry best practices which are higher than what the state of Missouri presently requires."

"The Advanta team was superb in every way. During the proposal stage they documented the work to be done with specificity and answered each question we asked. During the project, the techs were unobtrusive, professional and responsive to our needs. The work was completed on the agreed upon schedule and our home tested clean to earn a clearance letter from our testing firm. Our family had dreaded the cost and disruption that we imagined the remediation would cause but Advanta performed its tasks in a manner which proved each of our concerns were unfounded. We recommend Advanta without reservation for mold remediation."

"<p>I had ResCom out to run a more accurate radon test after having a high average level of 5 pCi/L using a card test. They were able to arrange the test quickly after I contacted them, and placed a continuous radon monitor in my basement, which ran for 3 days. The average reading from that test was 7 pCi/L, with peak levels of 12pCi/L. I had researched the cost of a mitigation system and was expecting it to be around $1000. The quote I received from ResCom was $725, so I decided to have them do the job.</p> <p>The day that the install was scheduled turned out to be stormy. I had stayed home from work for the install. Tom had contacted me about an hour before they were to show up and said that they were monitoring the weather, and would be out if the storms blew through. A few hours later, it had quit raining were Tom was at, and he said he would be coming my way since it looked like it would be out by the time they got here. I told him it was still raining pretty good at my house. Tom had said they would chance it since I had stayed home for them to come, they wanted to make sure I didn't have to stay home another day. It was still a bit stormy when they got here, but the rain had pretty much stopped. The guys got in and quickly completed my job. They cleaned everything up after they were done, and gave me a follow up card test to start a few days after the system had been running. I got the results back from that test, which were and lt;0.3 pCi/L. So, it looks like the system is working! <br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"Sent pictures of system location on exterior of house before install which was a plus to be able to review the location. Installed system and checked radon levels after installing which reduced radon levels to near "0". Pleased with quality of work for the price and includes a five year warranty that compliance level will be maintained. Hid system in an area of the house where it is not very noticeable which was great."

"It was great. On the phone you could tell this was his specialty and it is all he does. He explained when her came exactly what he would do and why. He installed it exactly as he said and it worked as promised. I never felt that my house and my problem was not a priority for him and not one of the 300 he does a year. He really was amazing. Many places tell you a range. For Dan it is the same price regardless of the job, which makes the entire experience easier. <br /> He did tell he that because I had sealed the cracks in the basement I probably could have resolved my radon problem by simply sealing the sump-pump cover. But, because I had already had it tested by law I had to get a certified specialist like him to fix it. <br /> Just a suggestion to other home owners before you get tested. Seal all the cracks in the slab in the basement, seal the sump-pump cover, and then invite a tester over to verify the levels. You just might solve your problem that way. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Lees Summit, MO

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
