Small jobs welcome

"When we decided to finally upgrade our fence, we scoped out some of the fences in our neighborhood. One of the fences that stood out for its craftsmanship and beauty had a CLM Home Improvements sign on it. I contacted Carlos for a quote and he was responsive, professional, and polite. Carlos listened to our concerns, offered suggestions, and gave us a few options to choose from. We were concerned this process might take a while because we live on a corner and our fence required a permit. In fact, another fence company wouldn't even work with us because our project required a permit. Carlos kept us informed throughout the permit process, which was not as bad as we had anticipated. On installation day, Carlos and his team arrived promptly and removed our old, ugly chain link fence and installed a beautiful 6' wooden privacy fence. We couldn't be more thrilled with it! As far as pricing, CLM's price was the best -- in one case nearly $5K LOWER than what another company quoted us! I will try to remember to come back and post some pictures - we have not finished all of our landscaping yet. Want a fence? Call CLM!"

"We did a lot of research with other contractors before we went with EA Roofing and Siding.  These were larger operations and they spent a LOT of time marketing all the benefits of their products and differentiating themselves from the competition before they would even give you a hint at their pricing.  Once they revealed their pricing (in a follow up session), they wanted to you make a commitment (i.e. sign a contract) on the spot.  Hopefully this review will save you a lot of time listening to all the sales talks and help you avoid a high pressure sales situation that could end up being very costly.
Here are some of the main claims that those OTHER companies made:
  1. Claim:  Financial Stability:
They claimed that ALL smaller contractors fund their current job with the money from their next job.  They tried to make you believe that those smaller companies are all about to go bankrupt and are taking an advance on your money to stay afloat for their current job.
      1. Fact:  EA Roofing had no such cash flow problems.  Even after the job was done, they were in no big hurry to submit the final invoice.
    1. Claim:  Workmanship
    2. The competition claimed that the other contractors put the new roof on over top of your old roof just to save money.
      1. Fact:  EA Roofing and Siding did very high quality work.  They most definitely took the old roof off, down to the bare wood, before they put the new roof on.  If they didn't do that there would have been no way to check for bad decking.  They did NOT cut corners to save money.
    1. Claim:  Other contractors don't have a good warranty on their work
      1. They liked to emphasize that you don't have a warranty for the roof if the company goes out of business (and they are all about to go out of business as they told you in point number one...).
      2. Fact:  EA roofing gave a good warranty:  They upgraded the roof to architectural shingles for no extra cost, because they wanted their work to "really look great."  The architectural shingles automatically come with a 30 year warranty.  In my opinion, the manufacturer warranty is not very useful.  It is extremely unlikely you'll ever need it, because NONE of them covers hail damage, which is the real killer of roofs.  The fact that it is excluded from the manufacturers warranty is no big deal, since hail damage is already covered by our homeowner's policy.
      3. [The siding also came with a warranty.  I don't recall at the moment how long it is for...]
    1. Claim:  Other contractors void the siding warranty by using a drop in backer...
    1. Then they show you that their siding design has integrated the siding with the insulation (one piece, with no air gaps).  They emphasize that their siding is rated to 190 mph, while the regular siding is mounted on top of the insulation and has air gaps and is only rated to 130 mph.  In my opinion, this was a VERY weak selling point.  If there are 190 mph winds, then my house is going to get more damage from crashing trees and flying branches, NOT because there are air gaps between the siding and the backer...  I'm also not convinced that the integrated siding is all that great, because it is glued in place and does not allow the house to breathe.  (I'd rather let my house breathe and not trap the toxins inside...)  Either way, if the siding does rip off, then insurance will cover it.  Even better, Virginia has a law that prevents your insurance rates from going up if the claim is due to a natural disaster.  I'd rather save the difference in price and get NEW siding for the cost of my deductible, if that storm does hit.
    2. Claim:  Other contractors are unable to do larger jobs
      1. Since we wanted two windows inserted in a brick wall [NOT A TRIVIAL JOB BY ANY MEANS...], we were prepared to hire another contractor to get that done, but EA Roofing and Siding had the appropriate connections to subcontract out that work and coordinate the timing of the projects to knock them out at one time.  Very impressive and with INCREDIBLE results!  It completely changed the look and atmosphere of the room and main level.  We absolutely LOVE the light and the new view to the back yard that we never had before.

    1. Summary:
    2. Apparently the large companies know where their competition is and they go out of their way to slam them for hours on end before they will give you their price.  EA Roofing and Siding didn't spend any time denigrating other contractors.  They just came in, showed you their products and got right to the price, which was SIGNIFICANTLY better than ANYONE else!!!  Their workmanship was phenomenal and project management impeccable.  On top of that, their price was unbeatable.  I just wish we could have saved ourselves all that time researching other contractors before we discovered EA Roofing and Siding.  Hope this info saves you that time.  God bless.

"Overall, I thought the person that came to my home to give an estimate of the patio we wanted to build was not very professional. She came up with a sketch for the patio which did not incorporate the design ideas that I wanted. She was willing to re-sketch the design 2 times to get it right, but then seemed to get annoyed that I asked questions about the materials that were being used, the options that were available...etc. Granted she may have been having a bad week, but I expected more. Ended up going with a different contractor and glad I did because the quote I got from them was $1000 less and I loved the job they did.
Overall, I would give them a B-.

It was pretty good, not an A experience -- but a B.  The price was very good and the work was acceptable.  They were not super professional -- some late projects.  Something was backordered, a subcontractor didn't show, the assistant wasn't working out -- so the projects took longer than initially planned.  And in terms of quality they were pretty good.  The dormers that were wrapped in aluminum look great.  The concrete work was excellent.   The plumbing and electrical work were great.  The interior paint was pretty good - it was also a great price so no complaints.  A shutter they secured fell off.  And the gutter detached -- but they repaired it. The shingles they replaced when they put the new rake board on fell off -- on both sides of the house.  They didn't think it was related, but the shingles were fine for 15+ years before they removed them and tacked them back down.  So we disagree on this point.  I should have brought it their attention earlier.  Overall, they did a lot of very good work at an excellent price.

"Adrian was great. The estimate was about $20,000 for the second story, composite deck we want which means that the project will be put off for a little while. We will probably get a couple other estimates for comparison at that point, but we were very happy with our consultation experience with Adrian."

They put in a lot of crappy boards. They were the only ones that I found that replied that would put in the fence that I wanted. Most of it was very good, but, of course, on the far side of the yard I found lots of boards that were not up to snuff. Eight years ago they got the fence in. I wasn't there (when they did the work). I would use them again in the future only if I stood over them with a shotgun. They could have used better boards and given me a lighter gauge. I wasn't there for the most part and they were all Hispanic so I've got no idea how the workers were, but the contractor that was watching over them had no complaints.

FAQs for vinyl or pvc fence installation projects in Lexington Park, MD

The difference between PVC and vinyl fencing is nonexistent because PVC is simply a type of vinyl used in fence construction. Both terms describe a durable, low-maintenance material that resists rust and rot. This product is engineered for long-lasting performance, offering a reliable solution that meets both functional and aesthetic requirements.

You’ll get long-lasting, low-maintenance panels that won’t rust or rot, and you’ll find a wide range of colors and designs that are easy to install. Repairs cost $30 per linear foot, so keep that in mind if damage occurs, and be aware that extreme weather can reduce performance. Overall, vinyl offers a solid balance of durability and style, though you’ll pay a bit more if you need repairs. For many homeowners, the curb appeal and low upkeep still make vinyl fencing a worthwhile investment.

Vinyl fencing is more expensive than wood fencing. The higher cost is justified by its extended lifespan and lower maintenance requirements when compared to wood. Vinyl fence material persists longer and reduces the need for frequent repairs, which contributes to its value as a long-term investment. Installation may require additional time, but its dependable performance and refined look offer superior benefits.

The lifespan of a vinyl fence extends from 10 to 30 years. This duration is directly determined by the quality of the vinyl material, the precision of installation, and the prevailing weather conditions. A well-installed vinyl fence delivers robust performance, enduring durability, and an uncompromising appearance throughout its entire service life. The construction process reinforces its resilience against environmental challenges.

The ideal vinyl fence style depends on your specific needs for privacy, aesthetics, and functionality. A classic picket fence delivers an enduring, traditional look for front yards, while a privacy fence offers secure seclusion for backyards. A three-rail fence provides a balanced design that suits both decorative standards and performance expectations. Consider factors such as desired style, local climate, and long-term maintenance when selecting your perfect vinyl fence design.
