"Overall, we had an outstanding experience with The eXtra Mile (TXMile). We live on a hill and have severe drainage problems. During a mild rain, our yard turns into a swamp. After the type of rain East Texas saw this past spring, itâ s unusable for months. We had hired a concrete company to put in a patio and work on the drainage. After 2 months of only making our problems worse, we decided to look elsewhere and found TXMile on recommendation. We asked them to review the problem and propose a few solutions with estimates and budgets. They delivered above expectations, coming out on the same day we contacted them and starting work as soon as we accepted the quote. Pros: The top consideration for us when hiring work is the quality of the communication. Jobs like this never go according to plan. There are just too many variables and unknowns. The worst thing that can happen is for the crew doing the work to make decisions about our home without talking to us, or even make promises they canâ t hope to keep and not bother to tell us when they break them. I have no clue why that seems to be so common, but TXMile is rare in this regard. As expected, several problems popped up during the job and they were careful to review each problem, present options and discuss our ideas at each step. I never had to question when work was going to finish or what to expect. As an unexpected surprise, Michael and his crew tackled our problem with an integrated solution. They chose drains that keep as much water as possible on our property, but distribute it through the soil in a way that leaves the soil fertile, but not saturated after a rain. Water that is dumped is diverted away from our neighbors, allowing them to also benefit from this work. We expect this to save us from buying a sprinkler system to keep green grass. It should also help with erosion and potentially prevent foundation problems in our home. As a bonus, this also means we are dumping less water into the White Oak sewers and drainage system and not giving the city a reason to raise taxes. While it would be easy to run a business installing drains at the customerâ s direction in the same way for years, Michael quickly showed that this wasnâ t his intention. He carefully explained the science of how groundwater flows after a rain, the cause of our problems and how recent developments in the field had changed best practice. He was able to use these methods without adding cost or time. Cons: TXMile does not offer any sort of professional invoicing currently. Although they did recently obtain an LLC, so that may change in the near future. This did cause some confusion on what we were paying for and when, but Michael took the time to work through it with us and make sure we were both on the same page. This candid conversation diminished our invoice concern quickly. As full disclosure, we have not yet tested the drains with rain and this review is based on our experience as a customer of TXMile. We will update this review with the drainâ s performance after the next big rain."
