"Leo was very helpful and quick to respond. We’re happy with how our 2 bathrooms turned out. Project was completed within the time promised. Our only complaint is that the workers did not clean up very well. But overall, we’re satisfied and we’ll use them again."

"To remodel our home, we chose Wise Builders over a couple other firms that were also highly rated because at our first meeting, Nathan, a project manager, after walking through the house with us to assess the job, also gave us a detailed and organized presentation of what we could expect working with their company during the remodel process. The remodel is finished, and not only are the results everything we hoped for and more, but the the process was all that Nathan told us we could expect from them. I'm describing it here as I did for a Yelp review: Contact with Nathan was easy and reliable. My text messages received an immediate reply during business hours, and when inspiration or anxiety struck on a weekend, the resulting email was answered promptly Monday morning. Nathan also called with regular updates on Monday mornings and as needed, since we were living off-site during demolition and construction. In an industry notorious for running months behind projected completion dates, our project was started as scheduled 5/1/18 and finished within the 3-4 month estimate, with final walkthrough 8/9/18. Nathan gives credit for that, along with the quality of work, to the foreman, Ervin, and his crew. Whenever my husband dropped by tending his garden, he witnessed a focused and hardworking crew, often fining Ervin and others putting in weekend hours to keep the project on schedule despite delays and added work after the initial time estimate had been made. It appears Wise Builders is run by people that value their reputation for high quality, and everyone in the company invests to maintain it. I saw it reflected in the polite and professional interactions, the organization and preparation, and in the end product, seen in the details achieved by using the best craftsmen in their field, along with a skilled crew. I saw it in the way they provided more than was required or expected because it would make something function better or be safer. I've seen it too in their willingness to address concerns or fix problems, even after the remodel project is done. Nathan told us to keep a list of any touchup or adjustment needs noticed in the first month living in in our remodeled house, then they would return to fix everything on the list. When I contacted Nathan about a plumbing problem that I didn't think could wait a month to be checked, Ervin came out promptly to diagnose and fix it. An unchanging commitment to retaining high-quality employees and maintaining high-quality service and workmanship assures that I and other clients will continue to recommend Wise Builders to others and return to them for any future building needs. p.s. I don't have the computer skills to attach a photo, but if you contact Wise Builders and ask to see photos of the Yakel remodel in San Jose, they have many they can show you! The work was extensive- it included a remodeled and expanded kitchen, new floors and windows throughout, paint throughout, two remodeled bathrooms including an expanded and reconfigured master bath, the addition of a walk-in closet to the master bedroom, and the removal of some walls along with raising the floor level in the sunken living room and family room to allow for an expanded kitchen and more open flow to surrounding spaces. As part of all of this there were changes to plumbing, electrical, and foundation work."

"We just completed our kitchen remodel in a fifty year old building. We lived in during the project and they were kind enough to keep my stove and refrigerator in use the whole time. Our Projuct Manager was Meir Bar who was great. He completd all city permits was in attendance for all inspections and was available by phone at all times even when he needed to leave the country. We had the same crew for the entire project and all were very responsive to all my questions and kept me informed as to what they were working on each day. Our project was completed within the time given at the start. The payment schedule was given to me at the start of the project and when had a change order they kept the cost at as low a cost as possible. I would use them for any future construction projects."

FAQs for shelter or outbuilding building service projects in Los Altos, CA

A bomb shelter is an abode built to withstand disaster. Bomb shelters may refer to a space or bunker that can protect inhabitants through a hypothetical nuclear attack, apocalypse, or any other massive crisis. People usually build bomb shelters underground and stock them to live there a few days to a month at a time. Doomsday bunkers accommodate long-term living rather than just through a short crisis.

Builders construct bomb shelters with reinforced steel, box culvert, concrete, or other durable materials (but many professionals do not recommend shipping containers, as they’re not designed to live underground. If building underground, you’ll first have to excavate land before building the actual structure. You’ll have to implement air and water filtration systems, septic systems, and power supply.

It takes a lot of experience to safely and legally construct a bomb shelter, not to mention make sure it’s fit to live in for extended periods of time. It’s best to talk to a residential structural engineer near you for proper guidance.

The current standard filtration systems require filtering both air and water. For air, you’ll want an NBC filter system, which both domestic and international producers make. NBC stands for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical, which filters out all three. If you’re only building your shelter for natural disasters, chemical attacks, and biological attacks, you may opt for the less expensive HEPA filter system.

Water filtration requires the same level of care. You’ll likely want to have a large water storage capacity to survive short-term disasters. For long-term living, you’ll want to have a water filtration system.

Rising S bunker prices depend on the size, ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $9 million. Their least expensive model is 96 square feet while their most expensive model has a gym, swimming pool, hot tub, and bowling alley.

  • Mini: $45,500

  • Standard Bomb Shelter: $67,500–$109,500

  • Silver Leaf: $140,000–$182,500

  • Admiral: $180,000–$500,000

  • Xtreme: $450,000–$780,000

  • Xtreme Bunker Complex: $840,000–$1,830,000

  • Luxury Series: $3,800,000–$9,600,000

You almost always need a permit to build a bunker on land with any type of public utilities running through it. You’ll want to check with your local building code enforcement agency to see if this is the case for your area.

Because you’re building a structural component that often requires electricity, water, and sewage services, you’ll need to apply for permits to attach these utilities to your new property. However, off-grid-only units in rural areas may not need all or any of the permitting you’d normally find in more urban settings.

To survive a nuclear blast, you’ll need to have your bunker at least three feet underground. However, it’s usually advisable to put it further underground. To survive a close strike, you’ll want to have the bunker at least 10 feet down and with five-foot thick reinforced concrete. However, knowing exactly how deep to build depends on the size of the blast you’re trying to avoid. Most bunkers don’t need to be more than 5 feet below the ground.
