"I hired Jim Burkhead to inspect my home on October 29th, 2025 before purchase. His report said the roof and moisture conditions were satisfactory. Within days of moving in on November 19th, our contractor found severe hidden issues: active roof leaks, soaked insulation, wood rot, mold in the walls and ceiling, and improperly installed metal roofing where sunlight was visible through gaps. Repairs cost $3,600. For weeks he ignored my emails and texts, then repeatedly tried calling me to ?talk on the phone? instead of addressing it in writing like I had requested numerous times. I gave him a written deadline to refund the inspection fee or I?d file a complaint with the Kentucky Board of Home Inspectors; he missed the deadline and still hasn?t taken responsibility. Buyers beware! My experience shows why it?s critical to hire an inspector who fully documents findings and stands behind their work."

"Bill was extremely professional and thorough in his inspection of the home. He is a good communicator and informed me all along the way as he proceeded through all phases of the process. In the end I did not buy the house because of the seriousness of some of the issues which were uncovered. The value I received was worth more than I paid."

"I got this work done awhile ago - early 2019. I wanted to a decent period of time to lapse and multiple heavy rains to occur before I made my review: I'm very happy to say that my basement is still bone dry after a full year! Champion was neither the least nor most expensive option, they were approximately in the middle of the estimates that I got. Everybody I dealt with was very knowledgeable and professional. I want to say especially that the installation crew did an amazing job cleaning up after a messy, muddy job. Overall, I would highly recommend this company!"

"Mark and Karen were very professional and thorough. They encouraged me and my wife to be present and part of the inspection process. They answered all of our questions to the best of their ability and gave us contact information of other reliable professionals to answer the questions they weren't qualified to. It was an absolute bonus that Mark and Karen are two of the nicest people we've ever met."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Louisville, KY

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
