"Overall we are completely satisfied. The kitchen turned out the way we hoped it would. We discussed several options with Logan in regards to how the new kitchen would be laid out, as well as the overall look. After talking through several designs we decided to move forward with the plans. Here are the positives and negatives that we encountered along the way: Positives - 1) Kitchen looks incredible. 2) Issues were discussed and resolved to our satisfaction. 3) It was completed in a relatively good timeframe. 4) Logan responded quickly to any calls and/or emails. Negatives - 1) Several quotes for items of work were very high, we had our tile done by a contractor for close to half of what Logan quoted to us. 2) To point #1, several things are subcontracted, so some things were not done to what I think Logan would consider his level of quality. 3) Quality control - We ordered cabinets through an installer that Logan had suggested, and had several quality issues that should have been caught by the installer or Logan and not us. 4) Pricing/Line items - We had to review each invoice change carefully as there were several errors. We also asked about the Angies list coupon and was told he would not accept it. In the end, like I mentioned above, we absolutely love the way the kitchen turned out. I think that if Logan could have recapped all of our meetings (to ensure we are all on the same page), quality controlled his subs, and priced things a little better he would definitely be an A+. -----------Response------------- Obviously he doesn't respond to customer experience based suggestions well. 1) WE MENTIONED WE WERE ANGIES LIST CUSTOMERS DAY ONE, YET WE WEREN'T TOLD ABOUT THE COUPON. WHEN WE DID FIND THE COUPON WE SAW NO STIPULATIONS ON IT. 2) Logan did not do the tile work as part of the kitchen and in fact qouted us close to double what we had it down for. And the floors turned out beautiful. We were quouted on a backyard fence also which the next closest quote was almost 1/2 of Logan's quote. This is not bias just facts, based on the many quotes we received. 3) You are, right quality control is not a lab. But when we the customer has to point out obvious issues when you have seen the finished product before us, it does show a bit of oversight. Just one example is a cabinet that was ordered, unpacked, and installed on the wall with a completely different panel that the rest of the cabinets. This went through at least 3 people before us seeing it, yet we had to point it out and justify why it needs to be replaced. 4) Yes you are correct, look at the first line, but also look at the last line where we suggest things that would have made this project an A+. You don't take them as suggestions even though we clearly have justification for all of the grades."

Customers say: Quick response

"Hired David Graf to repair a rotten beam on our patio, replace stucco/drywall around it, and redo the second floor balcony decking with new hand railings. Not only David provided us with the most competitive estimate, he realized some material savings during the process which ended up saving about 10% at the end. Quality exceeded our expectations. He is a man of his word - definitely would hire him again! Thanks David!"

"Everything turned out excellent. Ed and his family did an outstanding job in painting my mother-in-laws house. We found Ed on Angie's list and based on his professionalism, work ethic and his friendly deme noir, I highly recommend him for painting whether it's inside or outside. Pricing was important, but not the main reason we selected him. His proposal was 4 pages long and detailed everything that was to be done. Can't say enough about this company and would only hire him should we need additional painting.

"Lamont did a great job on the many items I needed done. I had a list of work to be done but was having trouble finding one person who could or would do them all. After much searching I found Lamont and read his great reviews. Now I know why. He was able to complete everything on my list! From installing new storm door, replacing interior doors and hardware, repairing holes and painting closets, hanging ceiling fans, cutting marble backsplash and installing, etc. He is very patient and listens to what you want then completes the work nicely. He is polite, respectful, and professional. He was able to work me into his schedule quickly and completed the work in the amount of time estimated and for the price quoted. I highly recommend him for anything you need done and when I need something he is the only person I'll be calling.... I am very thankful to have found him."

"Quick response for quote. started on time. took a little longer. that is the good part. work started 2nd week of January when we got the final bill - it was twice the amount of the quote. it looked like a lot of extra wood was needed to fix the roof. But we were not notified of the large amount of wood work. when we contacted BG - we were told that the person who did the final billing was not the regular employee to do the billing and somehow had added an extra zero here or there. so instead of 20 feet of fascia - we had 200. so our bill was redone and was now acceptable. BUT this was not the real reason for the poor review [even though we were shocked at the initial review of the final bill]. BG for some reason removed some of the angled roof material [this was not part of the work quoted and in fact that part of the roof is the responsibility of our condo association.. in fact BG is a roofer the association has used before - so that is one reason we hired them].and they have yet to fix that part of the roof.[ and some how the work was approved by the inspector. we got in touch with the assoc. and had them contact BG on 1-19 to see about getting it fixed. nothing yet - and because of the heavy rainstorms due at that time - i had to get up on the roof and with duct tape and plastic bags - try to seal in the opening. i only hope we haven't gotten any damage. so we are still waiting for BG to fix this."

"To replace a roof on your home can be an overwhelming event. But the professionals at Total Home Roofing bring unparalleled experience to the job that clears the fog of uncertainty about replacing your roof. During our first visit from Travis, he walked us through what to expect with replacing our roof. He was available for follow-up questions and was always honest and clear about the process. After the job was complete, he even called back to make sure we were satisfied, and everything was as we discussed. Then came the actual replacement of the roof! The Supervisor of our project was Eduardo, who was just as amazing as Travis. He was constantly communicating about what was happening and what to expect during the process. He let us know that if we had any questions or concerns, to contact him, and he would resolve or clarify so we were fully informed. Anytime I called Eduardo, he answered the phone and was available. Then if that wasn’t enough, I received daily updates from the main office of what was going on the day before and what to expect that day. Total Home Roofing made this daunting process less stressful. They went out of their way to communicate and walk with us through this event. Thank you, Total Home Roofing, Travis, and Eduardo!"

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Lutz, FL

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
