Customers say: True professional

"I couldn't be happier with the work. Andy was extremely helpful and punctual. I had quite a few estimates on my kitchen remodel and I felt like none of the contractors I talked to were really interested in what I wanted. Andy listened to everything I had to say and delivered.

Not only was the work completed on time. It was top notch work and under budget. How often does that happen?

I would highly recommend Andy Scott and would definitely use him again in the future.

"I wanted some updates done (new/updated lighting, new backsplash, painting) in the kitchen so on my initial visit with Nate, he made some suggestions which I hadnâ t thought of or thought it would be possible to do. He doesnâ t cut corners and treats the job like he was working on his own house. He has the knowledge, expertise and experience and did a fantastic job to help update our 1980â s kitchen."

"This contractor was amazing. This is just one of the many projects he has done in my home. Communication has been on point. The work that has been done is top notch. He was always on time and available to answer my questions. The price point for projects was well with in my range. His willingness to work with me and making changes to the plan was great."

"deWit Construction & Remodeling went well above and beyond my wife's and my expectations!
We had spent countless hours designing our large custom home addition that consisted of vaulted upper level ceilings, 3 bedrooms (2 guest and 1 master with a large walk-in closet), 3 bathrooms with custom showers, 2 offices, 1 huge 'Great Room', 1 large entry / mud room, 1 storage room, and 1 large 3-car garage. We then decided that we wanted to do much of the work
ourselves, taking on the responsibility of General Contractor for the project, and hiring sub-contractors to complete segments of the project that we weren't equipped to handle on our own.
To say this was a massive undertaking would be a gross understatement. Locating quality sub-contractors was one very tall hurdle that we hadn't taken into consideration during the planning phase. We found that they were few and far between, that many we were able to locate wanted to charge an arm-and-leg for 'custom' work (well outside of our budget), and that some were straight up unreliable and deceitful.
Our previous framing sub-contractor had left a bitter taste with us, so we practiced great diligence in selecting our next. (Note: Long story short, we had to take our previous framing sub-contractor to court in order to recover our down payment due to zero work being completed and multiple promises broken and deadlines missed.) We were pleasantly surprised when we met and spoke with Neil deWit about our project and desires for the work that his crew would be preforming. Neil was very professional in taking the time to listen to and talk with us about the project layout, time-frame and budget, etc. Once we chose to go with deWit C & R, it wasn't long before his crew was onsite and working. We couldn't have asked for nicer, professional guys to have working on our property. We didn't notice any yelling or profanity. They always dressed well and their equipment was always clean and well maintained, and put away at the end of the day. Oh, and their craftsmanship was second to none.
Earlier we mentioned some homeowner design flaws that deWit C & R encountered; well they tackled them head on and found creative ways to make everything work. Most 1st level wall studs had to be individually measured and cut due to fluctuations in the concrete foundation and floor. Wall, door and window locations and dimensions had to be altered in order to make our design work without drastically changing our initial layout. Everything was communicated with us very well by the head carpenter on the project and Neil, and we were involved in all major change decisions. It was awesome to see our project being fleshed out in front of our very eyes and knowing that it was being built with such great quality craftsmanship.
We wanted to roof the existing structure and the addition at  the same time, so as soon as the deWit C & R crew had finished nailing down the roof sheeting, we went to work on removing the worn out shingles from the existing roof. We had an old dump truck that was on its last leg, which we began using for catching the old shingles. We could barely get and keep it running. The next morning, the deWit C & R head carpenter show up pulling one of their nice dump trailers and asked me if we wanted to use it at no extra charge. We were blown away!
We couldn?t be happier with how things turned out.  We officially have our dream home and we owe a ton of credit to deWit Construction and Remodeling! We honestly don?t think we could have completed it without their experience, professionalism and willingness to work with us within our budget. There isn?t a single design modification that we are unhappy with, and the structure is super straight, solid, quiet and water tight.
We can?t say enough good things about deWit Construction and Remodeling. We?re happy to drop their name anytime we learn of an upcoming local project.

"How did it go, wonderful! Duane came and gave us an estimate on what we wanted and when we tweaked things he was so helpful in giving us ideas. He came when he said he would, and completed the work in the within the estimated time he said it would take.
What was surprising was how at the end of every day he cleaned up,so we weren't coming home to a dusty mess. He removed all the old cupboard doors and trash. The kitchen and bathroom look wonderful looks wonderful for a fraction of the cost of all new cupboards.
Duane went above and beyond. While he was working one day there was a strong wind and a small tree on the street parking blew over. He noticed the city was there cutting it down and went out and talked to them and relayed the details of how the city would come back and cut out the stump and reseed. How many people working in your home would do that. I felt like he was part of the family in that short time he was there updating our kitchen.
We couldn't be happier with our kitchen.
I would strongly recommend Kitchen Solvers as a solution to updating your home.

It went really wonderful he was very professional, he was really good as I wanted to paint the bathroom before he would put the tiling up and of course the baseboard.  I know when he gave me his estimate it was good but the poor thing I kept adding more stuff for him to do.  But he never got upset he said he would do it and he did.  I was so thankful that I got him to do the work he also suggested things and I would go along with because his ideas were better not to say he forced his ideas on to me that was not what went on now he didn't  I'm a single woman and I have dealt with contractors and it hasn't been good as my boyfriend would be there and instead of talking to me they would talk to him and he would just have to tell them that I was the one  paying them they needed to talk to me.  Not once did I get that from Todd which I was so grateful for.  He always explained what he was going to do and it didn't matter how many questions I asked he would answer them.  All in All I plan to hire him again for my kitchen and look forwards to his help.

FAQs for kitchen remodel projects in Madrid, IA

Your galley kitchen needs adequate clearance around any island installation to maintain functionality. Most galley kitchens lack sufficient width for traditional islands, as these layouts prioritize efficiency in smaller spaces.

If your kitchen has an unusual width, consult with a kitchen designer who can evaluate your specific dimensions and recommend appropriate solutions. For narrower spaces, consider alternatives like rolling carts or narrow work tables that provide additional surface area without permanently restricting movement.

Kitchen remodels require six to 10 weeks for completion, though timelines vary based on project scope and material availability. Simple updates like cabinet refinishing and countertop replacement might finish within a few weeks, while comprehensive renovations involving structural changes often extend beyond two months.

Planning stages add approximately four weeks before construction begins. Maintaining clear communication with your contractor and ordering materials early helps prevent unnecessary delays.

Common errors include insufficient clearance between opposing countertops, inadequate lighting that creates shadowy work areas, and poor storage planning that leaves countertops cluttered. Some homeowners select oversized appliances that overwhelm the space or invest in expensive features that don't address fundamental workflow issues.

Careful planning, accurate measurements, and consultation with experienced professionals help avoid these pitfalls and ensure your renovation successfully addresses your kitchen's specific challenges.

Whether expansion makes sense depends on your home's layout, your budget, and your long-term plans. Combining a galley kitchen with neighboring spaces creates more open, flexible layouts that many buyers prefer. However, removing walls involves substantial costs, particularly if they contain plumbing, electrical systems, or structural elements.

Sometimes, optimizing your existing galley layout through better storage solutions and lighting proves more cost-effective than expansion. Consult with a contractor to evaluate specific costs for your situation.

Effective galley kitchen lighting combines multiple sources to eliminate shadows and create visual spaciousness. Overhead fixtures provide general illumination, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates work surfaces directly. Consider recessed ceiling fixtures that don't protrude into limited headspace.

Lighting with dimming capabilities allows adjustment for different activities. Reflective surfaces like glass tile backsplashes or glossy cabinet finishes help bounce light throughout the space, reducing the corridor effect common in galley layouts.
