"My sidewalk had one section that settled, and created a tripping hazard. Rather than destroy the pad, and pour a new section of concrete. I hired Stabil Solutions to use polyurethane foam technology to raise the pad. It was a perfect job, nice even walk way. The foam works fast, and fills any voids that may be under the pad. If you have a driveway section, or walk way that is not level, this is a great way to save money and time without creating a huge construction project...no messy bags of concrete. Consult Stabil Solutions."

"Carlos & team visited 2-3 times to make sure we were ok with the various materials, and gave us multiple suggestions based on our budget. Ultimately we went with 1 dividing wall, vs 2, based on the cost, and we actually like it better this way. It was hot when they did the work, but they stayed on task & were very diligent about the work. About 1/2 way through laying out the pavers, my wife noticed there was a bit color variation from what we wanted, and so they actually picked up most of it, and blended it in with another lot. Turns out that even though from same manufacturer, some variation is expected, and it just so happened the 2 pallets were from different lots, so they pulled a bunch of it up & mixed them in, so the variation was more natural, vs. a dramatic shift. About 1 month after they were done, the dirt around the edge of the patio and run off, and so we called, and they installed sod around the edge of the patio (rounded section), which solve the problem. I attached 1 or 2 "in progress" photos to show the extent of the work. We are in the process of adding a pool, so the yard is in a bit of disarray. But the point of the recent pictures is 2 years later, the patio still looks great, no settling, no weeds popping in, so they did great prep work & it has been awesome."

"They did an EXCELLENT job. They were prompt, knowledgeable, clean and very careful with our home. Donnie even came back two weeks after the job when I unsure if it was safe to put items back on the concrete they poured. Were buying a new home that is 60 years old and already have them scheduled to make some repairs. I highly recommend them."

"The original pool was built by Anthony & Sylvan in 1978. I had the pool re-surfaced 20 years later with another company and they didn't do the plastering and coping correctly- so we decided to have Anthony & Sylvan come out in 2018 to renovate the pool. I picked Anthony & Sylvan because other companies wanted to drill through the surface of my pool and Anthony & Sylvan said they did not have to drill through the pool to put up the scaffolding in the deep end and didn't have to go through my plastering. They were the only company that was able to do it without drilling into the surface of the pool bed. They extended the pool about 6 feet and added in steps and removed all the coping and re-tiled. The pool looks outstanding! It looks like it was just put in. At the beginning of the job, I had my doubts about the price, but after the work they did in a matter of 3 days, I quickly changed my mind. I was very impressed with them. The crew was very talented with the tile work and cleaned up well afterwards. The company followed up on everything and took care of any problems right away. My wife and I were very happy with their work."

"The company has a nice selection of product and can tailor them to suit. I got an item near the top of the line. They matched the brick on my house pretty well. The site prep involved digging perhaps 30 inches into the ground and pouring a concrete footer. They let this cure for a few days and then a real brick mason came back for the final construction. There were a couple of minor niggling issues, which I let them know about, and they were out the morning of the next business day to take care of these, and were very pleasant about it at that. Nice way of dealing with a complaint. Many people have complimented me on this mailbox, and a couple of other homes in the neighborhood also purchased boxes from this company. They did a nice job for me and cleaned up well. Everything was done on time and as promised. They even hauled away the old, broken mailbox and post. I can recommend this company if you need a mail box, and in particular a higher-end brick model."

"I was looking to get a sidewalk installed in the front and rear of my home. I called several contractors about concrete and pavers. Mr. Troyer came when expected and gave me a written estimate for the job the next day. Two of the other contractors didn't return my call until after the job was completed or contracted. Mr. Troyer asked me what I was looking to do. He made a couple of suggestions that I did not think about. I had measured the walk way areas prior to him coming for the estimate and he measured nearly the same as I had. He has a very professional website and had many of his prior jobs on the site. He asked me to look at them and see if there was anything in particular that I wanted to have with my stamped concrete walks. He gave me some suggestions about color and pattern to match my home and yard. The job took two days. He was on site and working with two others for the complete job. He followed up with an email to let me know what I should do to maintain the walkways. The walk ways look awesome and I am very pleased with the completed job. I have recommended this contractor to others."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Mardela Springs, MD

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
