"Instead of just lighting the driveway he designed the lighting plan, picking particular trees to light to illuminate an aesthetic path up to the house.  The result is wonderful!  The lights on the walkway to the and deck are carefully positioned and the entire effect is wonderful.  I plan to have him back to do lights in the backyard as well.

"These folks were great. They made some recommendations to improve things like my lighting design which really worked out great. They completed the project early and did superior work. I would hire them again in a New York minute."

"The coupon cost $109.00 and the bulbs cost an extra $15.00.
He went to Home Depot and purchased the bulbs and installed them.  It was worth it, because I was trying desperately to find out what kind of bulb fit the Hood.  Finally, PHX came to the rescue.  Even the store that I bought the hood from gave me the run around for months (Home Depot) telling me that it takes a 60 watt bulb.

"There was initially a difficulty in scheduling the estimate and installation, which was concerning, as I already had purchased the Angie's Deal. However, German and his team made up for it by installing the entire system on the weekend. There were some minor electrical issues a month later, but German responded quickly and fixed it.

"Made a good suggestion re the bathroom fixture to not screw the bulbs in too tightly.  This seems to have solved the problem.  As for the other 2 items, provider made a couple of suggestions as to how I could fix them myself.  That's not what I was looking for.  I contacted the provider to fix them.  I'm not sure if this was a communication problem.  I was hoping to get these issues resolved, not have a consultation on what I could do to remedy the situation myself.

"Marshall Painter and his Project Manager Raul provided an excellent product. Marshall suggested various enhancements to the porch plan and they were excellent. He and Raul were in contact with me throughout construction to ensure I was pleased. Raul managed a team that was hardworking, polite, responsive and showed pride in their work. Several neighbors who observed the construction asked for business cards and followed up with contacts for similar projects. I have been very pleased work and final product."

"I contracted Deckorators back in April. We paid in full up front to get a small discount on price. After paying, we added in a change order to put in the lights on the stone piers.  We told them we would pay for them at the end of the project since we'd already paid so much up front.  They said that was fine.  Work was supposed to start mid June.  In June I started calling to find out when we were on the schedule. Debbie in the office was very friendly. She said she'd forward all of my messages to John but I NEVER received responses. I always had to call back in just to get an "estimate" of when they would be starting. Every time I called and actually got an answer from Debbie (John never ever called me during that time) she would tell me about all of the delays.  It started with 4 week delays, then went to 8 week delays.  It ended up being more like 11-12 weeks.  I had finally had enough at the beginning of September and told Debbie I wanted to hear back from John.  He called me and told me that he still had jobs ahead of mine but that he could switch me around to get me in earlier.   Finally, in mid September, his crew came out.  There was an old concrete patio that needed to be broken up so they could build the new patio in it's place.  John told me when he met with me that this was the best course of action.  However, there are a LOT of rocks in the yard, so his crew decided they would leave it and just build the patio covering the old one.  I suspect it's because they were having a hard time digging down, but no one talked to me about it.  When I called John he said they decided to build around it and that it would be seamless (strike #1) and guaranteed that we would never have problems with it.   After a couple of days, he called and wanted payment for the change order (strike #2).  I told him he would not get another penny from me until the project was completed to my satisfaction.
Then, the crew started laying the foundation of the patio including the pipes to house the electrical wires for the piers.  I requested multiple times that John have the electrician out to make sure everything was where it should be before they laid the pavers.  He COMPLETELY ignored my requests and had his crew lay everything down.  When the electrician did come, he said the pipes were in the wrong place so he had to run wires outside the house to get the piers connected to a switch in the house.  The pipes were also in the wrong place on the piers, so they had to cut grooves in the top to run the wires to the center so the lights could be affixed in the proper place (strike #3).
In their defense, the patio is very pretty.  I have a lifetime warranty on pavers and a 5 year warranty on everything else.  Time will tell if it will last, but we're still hopeful.  One of the reasons we chose this contractor is that we were told their crews were all very experienced and we paid almost double what we could have paid using another contractor.  I know crew have new people on them and that they have to learn, and truly I'm ok with that.  However, if you have a new crew, they need supervision.  Someone experience should have been there on a regular basis to make sure everything was done right.  Then we never would have had the electrical issues.
As previously mentioned, the patio is very nice.  I just wish we would have had to go through the aggravation of dealing with a company with such poor communication with no willingness to listen to the homeowners.  I will not ever recommend them nor will I ever use them again outside of enforcing my warranty if needed.

"They worked very hard to level and square the retaining walls and patios. We were very impressed by the lack of cutting corners. Our original patio and retaining walls were never properly installed and they appear to have corrected this problem. For years, we also had a drainage problem on the two sides of the house. They installed a French drain on one side and a basin drain on the other. Time will tell if this completely solves the problem, but the drains were working over the last two days of rain. We were so impressed by the quality of their work that we are having them come back to do a few more landscaping items.

"I purchased the Angie's Big Deal $295 for 4 New Recessed Lights with a Dimmer Switch Installed.  First, I want to say that I love my new recessed lights over the kitchen counters.  They make a tremendous difference in the look and workspace of my kitchen.  Because the lights went into a soffit over the counters, Mr Pariseau recommended upgrading from the standard 6 inch lights to 4 inch.  I'm glad he recommended it because they are more modern and they look great.
I gave Pariseau Electric and overall "A" for value and professionalism.  I am very happy with the package and upgrade I purchased.  I marked Mr. Pariseau down to a "B" in quality only because he did not have a hole saw to drill the openings for the lights.  He simply marked them with a pencil and cut them our with a reciprocating saw.  While this worked, the result was less perfect than a hole saw and required me to do some minor patching and extra repainting of the ceiling around the lights.  I also marked "B"s on responsiveness and punctuality because it took about three days for me to finally get a hold of Mr. Pariseau after purchasing the Angie's coupon and the my morning install appointment ended up getting done much later in the day.  To his credit, Mr. Pariseau contacted me to explain what was happening and ask if he could move my appointment time due to complications with other jobs.  Fortunately, I had taken the entire day off from work and was able accommodate so that the work was done on the same day it had been scheduled.

FAQs for outdoor lighting plan and installation projects in Markham, VA

Permit requirements for outdoor lighting vary depending on your location and project scope. Simple fixture replacements don't require permits, but projects involving new electrical circuits, extensive trenching, or significant system expansions often do. Local building departments establish these requirements, and many professional electricians handle permit applications as part of their service package.

The timeline for outdoor lighting installation varies based on project complexity. Basic systems might require only one to two days for complete installation, while extensive lighting networks with numerous fixtures and complex wiring needs could extend to a week or longer. Weather conditions, property accessibility, and soil characteristics can all influence how quickly professionals can complete your installation.

Outdoor lighting offers both practical and aesthetic benefits that many homeowners find valuable. Beyond enhancing nighttime visibility and security, well-designed lighting can highlight architectural features and extend outdoor living hours. While installation represents a significant investment, quality lighting may potentially increase property appeal and could contribute to overall home value.

Some outdoor lighting projects are suitable for homeowner installation, particularly simple solar fixtures or low-voltage systems that plug into existing outlets. However, projects requiring new electrical connections, permanent wiring, or integration with home electrical systems demand professional expertise. Electrical work carries inherent safety risks, and improper installation could create fire hazards or code violations.

The operating cost for outdoor lighting depends primarily on your fixture types, bulb selection, and usage patterns. Energy-efficient LED fixtures consume significantly less electricity than traditional incandescent or halogen alternatives. Controlling your lighting with timers, photocells, or motion sensors can further reduce energy usage by ensuring lights operate only when needed or beneficial.
