"F.J. Hooks did excellent work. I especially appreciate its willingness to accommodate some special requests of mine for materials (U.S. made parts) and scheduling. The crew arrived promptly, worked very efficiently, and cleaned well afterwards. I also appreciate that the crew was able to stabilized the shower head pipe without cutting into the back side of the wall (as was identified as a potential problem area)."

"I had water pipe break in my house. I called many well known companies in area and i was not happy with any one of them for various reasons (Professionalism, attitude, experience, way of approaching to resolve the issue, cost, …). Finally I posted for recommendation for plumbing in our community website, I am extremely happy that I called American Pluming company based on recommendation that I received. Dan (American Plumbing), was very professional, great attitude, knowledgeable, experts, friendly, great price, on time and the job that he performed was way above my expectation. Dan and his team were very detail oriented without costing you a penny extra. The way I observed their work, was like they were performing the work for their own family. Great Job Dan! I, as a very hard to please customer, highly recommend American Plumbing company. You will never be disappointed. From now on, for any new plumbing project or getting a professional pluming opinion, American Plumbing is only company that I rely on. Thanks for the great service that you provided! A++++"

"Atilio (owner) did work previously for our landlords at our rental home (installed gas range, installed kitchen sink). He came for an estimate within a day of the phone call, and provided an estimate via email within a couple of days. He came out on Saturday to cut drywall and prepare for the installation. He returned on Tuesday to complete the work - running the gas line from the basement (where the line enters the house for the furnace and water heater) to the kitchen and also to connect the lines for the fireplace. He also painted our exterior gas lines to make them look nicer (and less rusty). He returned again on Saturday once the stove had been delivered for the installation. Later on Saturday we called him again from a fireplace shop to get information about the line he had run (how many BTUs before we purchased a new burner mechanism) and he was very helpful, giving us advice to help save money on our gas bill. <br /> Atilio is a pleasure to work with and is very professional. He is very knowledgeable and we have been very satisfied with his work. <br />"

"INITIAL VISIT Chris was friendly and courteous and seems to genuinely enjoy helping people solve their plumbing problems. The shutoff valve was replaced quickly and installed much better than the original. The work area was also thoroughly cleaned. A sagging natural gas line was noticed during the job and the problem fixed by adding a few hangers. Chris listened to and patiently answered all my hot water heater questions. As a result of our discussion we decided to replace our 19yr old State unit with a State Proline XE unit. Installation was scheduled four days later to accommodate our schedule -- note our old unit was still functioning. SECOND VISIT The old hot water heater was removed and hauled away. The new unit was installed. A new ball valve shutoff was added, as was a new catch pan and drain under the unit. Once again Chris left the work area cleaner than he found it. He also took the time to make sure we understood how the settings worked on the new unit before he left. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the work, and the professionalism Chris provided. I highly recommend using this plumber."

"I just had an electric 80 gal Rheem Hybrid water heater installed in my basement by FEPG, replacing my 20+ year old Rheem heater. The whole team from the, office to the installers, are VERY knowledgeable about the products and services. Most importantly their customer service and follow-up are the best I’ve encountered with any plumbing organization. They specialize in water heater installations, and you can purchase your heater from FEPG. They will deliver, install your new heater and remove your old heater. My install only took about 2.5 hours, start to finish. Finally, I had obtained estimates from full service local Plumbing companies and with FEPG I saved up to 50% in the purchase and installation of the exact heater."

"What a great experience! Scheduling was a breeze; and the plumber, Owen, arrived on time, well within the window after a call that he was on his way. I originally scheduled them to install a touchless kitchen faucet I had purchased; when he was here, I inquired about replacing the garbage disposal and then he noted some issues with my current kitchen sink traps (which were clear to see when he pointed them out). Owen was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional; and he immediately flexed from my initial faucet installation request to add the other two items to the scope. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with the service... Owen did a great job and I'll definitely reach back out to The Pipe Doctor for future plumbing needs!"

"<ul> <li>I spent hours on multiple visits to Plumbing Parts Plus spread over three weeks as I worked with their knowledgeable staff to select toilets, vanities, and plumbing fixtures. My friends ask why I didn't just go to my local big box store or buy on line (and I'm experienced at both). In a word, service. These guys know their stuff and are very accommodating to folks like me who need help. A shout out goes in particular to Pete and Carl, who bore with me as I slowly zeroed in on the products I wanted, with several changes of mind, and worked with me to get them despite problems with manufacturer schedules. Thanks to them my bathrooms look and work great and the renovation project was finished on time. Yes, I've calculated there was an incremental increase in cost but it was mostly due to the higher quality items I was purchasing than are typically available in big box stores. The service I got was priceless.</li> </ul> <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Markham, VA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
