"My wife and I hired Kevin Babcock General Contractor to construct a 3 season room addition to our home. Kevin quoted a very reasonable price, for the project which included a start and end date, for the job. The project was started and finished within the scheduled time. Kevin is excellent with communicating what is going to happen, on the project, on a regular basis. He also answers any question you may have during the course of the job. His people are very professional and skilled, at all aspects of the project. In addition to the construction Kevin also handled all of the paper work including filing the plans, which we had already prepared, through to delivery of the C of O. Kevin also provided additional value, to the project, which just made it better, at no extra cost. We are very pleased with our new 3 season room and highly recommend Kevin Babcock, General Contractor."

Explicó todo lo que veía que había que hacer y se puso a trabajar. Todo el trabajo tomó alrededor de 2 horas desde la evaluación hasta la ejecución. "Use Affordable Contractors built me a 500 sq. ft. Trex deck that completely transformed my backyard. They helped me finalize the layout, reviewed the framing plan, and explained how the Trex boards, fascia, and railings would be installed so everything would be low-maintenance and long-lasting. The crew arrived on time, set solid footings, and framed the deck straight and sturdy before carefully installing the Trex decking with clean lines and tight seams. They handled all the details, including stairs, railings, and trim, and made sure water drained properly away from the house. The site was kept organized during the job and fully cleaned at the end. The finished deck feels solid, looks sharp, and is ready for family gatherings with almost no upkeep."

"I am very glad I hired Brian VanKleeck. The primary task was cedar shake replacement, but he also installed copper gutters, wood gutters, rebuilt a chimney, and repaired a shed on a 1773 historic house. Historic methods and aesthetics were an important part of the project. Brian sourced the materials and corroborated details with experts, including people who had worked on the house many years ago. He is skilled in the techniques in question, and was a clear and careful communicator throughout. He is very organized. Not only that, but he brings humor, humanity, and joy to the process. Highly recommended."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Marlboro, NY

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
