"I have hired General Construction Millworks (also known as General Remodeling Group) twice now, both for renovations to my basement. Each renovation involved several components, including planning/remodeling, obtaining local permits, demolition, wall framing, drywall repair, electrical work, plumbing, installing flooring, painting, and more. The first job I hired them for was 4 years ago...they completely remodeled the family room side of my basement, completely removing some stairs and replacing them with new ones, along with a complete renovation of that room and attached areas. Then recently, this year in 2019, I hired them to renovate the other side of my basement, which is the laundry room, storage, and 1/2 bath side, in which they installed cabinetry, flooring, moved some plumbing, installed a sump pump with battery back up, and more. I have worked with several contractors, specialists, and handyman services, and my experience with this company has by far been the best. I find them to have competitive and fair pricing, they are honest and transparent about the work they do, and they follow all local codes and best practices. They also involve the homeowner in all issues and decisions. Like any relationship, the client still has to be clear about their expectations and follow up on their concerns along the way - and this company is very good about working with their clients. I found their customer service to be top notch, especially the head contractor I worked with, I had his cell number the whole time and he was very responsive to calls and texts. He made sure our project met the expectations we outlined in our contracts/agreements. Their work ethic is great, their pricing is competitive and fair, their quality of workmanship top-notch, and their customer service is outstanding. I can not recommend them enough. "

"My wife and I had a meeting with Brad and Ryan with the intent of â  shopping aroundâ  for a basement remodeling company. Our basement had major issues with dampness and after having the issues resolved with waterproofing, we were looking to create a multi use space. They were attentive to designing a space to meet our needs but most importantly, we were impressed with the basement system because it is moisture resistant, mold resistant, and sound absorbant. Additionally, it has a life time warranty! Working with Remodel USA was a no brainer. We look forward to the next steps in our partnership. Weâ re given 5 stars and will return after the work is completed. "

Washington DC Basement Remodel

If you're thinking about upgrading your home in Washington DC, basement remodeling is an excellent project that has many benefits. While some Washington DC basement remodels are strictly utilitarian, others can do far more than simply create a dry place to store household items. The best Washington DC basement renovations are characterized by increasing form as well as function, and many homeowners who have been through this process have found that their new basements are one of the most popular rooms of the house. As with any other home improvement project, basement remodeling in Washington DC is not always a definite winner; to get the most from this project, there are a few things to consider.

Planning the Remodel
Planning is by far the most important stage of basement remodeling. Washington DC homeowners looking to increase property value, create more living space, and have a successful project overall will have to spend a fair amount of time designing their basements. Of course, the average homeowner is far from an architect, but having a good idea of what you want doesn't take a degree of any sort. Before you contact your first contractor and get your first estimate, it is very helpful to have a list of the features you need your basement to have, as well as a few extras that can be included if the price is right. Having a good plan will not only help contractors give you a better idea of costs and project duration, but it may also allow them to make suggestions that will give you what you want in a way you hadn't thought of.

Renovation Options
One of the nice things about basement remodeling in Washington DC or anywhere else is that you have a lot of leeway when it comes to what can be done. Unlike other areas of the home, basement spaces are not designed for one specific purpose which leaves its main function wide open. In a leaky basement, priority one will, of course, be waterproofing, but beyond the strictly practical, you?ll have plenty of options to create the space that best suits you. For sports fans in Washington DC, basement remodels that include a spot for a big TV, a few couches, and even a wet bar are the perfect compliment to the big game. For growing DC families, creating an extra bedroom in the basement can provide some much appreciated breathing room. Creating a basement apartment might even pay for itself for those willing to rent it out. With such a versatile space, there is really no end to the possibilities!

Remodeling Prices
Of course, some Washington DC basement remodels are pricier than others. Here at HomeAdvisor, we keep track of every project we process, including basement remodeling. Washington DC prices for this task range greatly; while we?ve seen some cost as much as $60,000, most of the jobs we see fall closer to $20,000. In fact, we've seen several Washington DC basement remodels for $15,000 or less!

Remember, the total cost of basement remodeling should always be compared to how much the project is likely to recover in resale value. In DC, there's a good likelihood that basement renovation will recoup a large percentage of construction costs in added property value; this can be increased even more for remodels that create a fully functional apartment that can be rented out!
