"14 piers were installed and the addition was jacked back into place. They jacked multiple piers at one time. The cracks that had opened up between the addition and the rest of the house were completely or substantially closed. The addition was returned to level. The addition was lifted up to two inches. EFS delivered more than than they promised on the lift. They were able to work next to a deck that was about 6 feet away without removing the deck. One small disappointment was with the back filling after the lifting was complete. The addition is constructed with insulated concrete forms (PolySteel) with a brick ledge that extends out from the side of the wall. There is a drain pipe connected to the down spouts that rests under the brick ledge. The back fill was not sufficiently placed and compacted under and behind the pipe. The ground next to the addition later sank two to three inches after a heavy rain when the voids around the pipe were filled by wet soil. Overall I would grade the job as an A- because of the back filling."

"This is one of the BEST COMPANIES I have ever worked with! They are very responsive & HONEST!! - After they excavated the sites it was discovered there where Helical piers from a past job of theirs from many years ago... maybe even 20 years ago. Nolan Beery came down to Indianapolis to see the piers first hand - and covered them with their lifetime warranty. I was not the original owner that added the piers... they found the receipt that they did do the work many years ago for a previous owner of my home. They covered majority of the pier sites under their warranty. THERE ARE FEW COMPANIES THAT HAVE THIS HONESTY & INTEGRITEY LIKE ACCULEVEL. Acculevel is one of the best companies I have worked with. Hands down if you need any foundation work by a professional company that stands by their work Acculevel is the choice!"

"Outstanding work by the team.  On time and within the budget.  This job effort went way beyond what I was expecting.  For an older home, they really made the basement look refreshed. This team from the time they got onsite at the work location, they didn't stop and were very focused.  Prior to the job starting the foreman of the job reviewed the specification and supporting documentation that was created and walked the job site.  During this walk through the team provided ongoing details on what they were going to execute over the 4 day period.  The team did 2 parts of the basement.  It is amazing with all the concrete that had to be removed and drainage system built there was very little dust in upper part of the home.  They took all precautions to cover all major appliances, furnace and other furniture that was in the basement area. They used techniques that really kept the dust to a minimum.  This required a lot of manual labor to execute this job and the men onsite were great workers.  The site location was difficult to get to with heavy trucks and equipment, but they were excellent at maneuvering their vehicles.  At the completion of the job we did a full walk through and they provided me a lifetime warranty for the work.  Since I will be selling the property the lifetime warranty is transferrable to the new owners.  Also, during the final inspection they did all the appropriate water test to make sure drainage and sump pump was in good working order.  So the simulation of a water issues was done multiple time.  Once the entire system - drainage, vapor barrier, sump pump and drain this was totally certified multiple times.  Once certified the team completed the cement work and did the final clean-up of the location.  Also, the 2nd part of the job was to dig (outside), and install 4 piers at each corner of the foundation.  This correctly reset the blocks on the wall and reduced the overall spacing.  I was amazed at the good condition of the wall once <br /> installed.  After the entire testing and walk through with me they properly graded the dirt so that the water would drain away from the house.  This job required them dig all this manual due to the limited working area between the hill side and the house foundation and the inability to get heavy equipment to the location. <br />"

"A 40 foot section of our foundation wall was completely rebuilt in June of 2014, and recently a 10 foot section of that wall displayed signs of water intrusion. A representative from KBS came out in late October of 2018 to survey the problem, take pictures and come up with a solution to remedy the issue. On Jan. 4, 2019, the project manager, Josh English, came to discuss what steps were to be taken in the repairs and ask if this was satisfactory to us, which it was. Jan. 9-10, a crew came to initiate the remediation; throughout the work, the lead technician Josh, explained what was to be done and consulted us about placement of various physical aspects (electrical supply, sump pump, etc.), which was much appreciated. After the repairs were completed, Josh again went over the details of the work to ensure our satisfaction, which we were. The remediation included installation of an interior French drain and a sump pump on that section of wall, in addition to covering the concrete block with a non-organic material to prevent mold growth. There was no charge for the repair, as it was covered by the original warranty, but I must add that this was obviously a substantial financial investment by the company owner (labor, materials and travel time) to guarantee that the issue was permanently resolved. The only negative comment that I would make is that I initially had some difficulty making contact with someone to explain the problem that I was having, so that someone could come and evaluate it, as well as finding out when repairs were to be scheduled."

"There were positives and negatives in my experience with Slink's Masonry. <br /> Scheduling was a problem. When I first contacted Gary in May of last year, he was very up front that he was currently busy, but thought that he could look at the project in about six weeks or so. I was willing to wait, but after that, it was one slip after another, first just getting an estimate and then starting the work. The project was not underway until the beginning of October. The project was estimated at six weeks but ran closer to eight including some worked weekends, finishing up in late November on the cusp of bad weather. <br /> The other issue was project planning. Regardless of who's doing the work, I would simply not do another project like this without a more thorough project plan in the contract, including fairly detailed sketches with measurements. There was no contract beyond signing the estimate, which had a more general description of the work. This impacted most on the front steps, where both the riser height (8") and width (31") of the steps from the driveway to the landing don't match the riser heights (5 1/2") and widths (36") of the steps from the landing to the front porch. I don't know why the riser heights were done differently - they were all the same in the wood steps he was replacing, but after the molds were built (still prior to pouring the concrete), Gary gave me heavy resistance to changing it. The widths are off because he didn't take into account the depth of the stone veneer on the retaining walls to either side of the lower steps which extends into the step. Project planning was also an issue where the stone interfaced with other materials. The vinyl siding I had put in didn't terminate the way Gary wanted it - and while Gary will say the siding installer should have known better (quite possibly true), coordination would have been easier on my end if this was specifically spelled out in the contract. This was fixed by the siding installer at my expense. The Garage doors were replaced prior to Gary's work with new trim/weatherstripping installed, because he was going to stone up right up to the trim. When the wood beneath the trim had to be removed, the trim was destroyed and had to replaced, again at my expense. There was a tree blocking his access to the chimney which was taken down, which should also have been in the contract. He was unwilling to remove the stump. The height of the patio was higher than we discussed, so I had to have 10 cubic yards of dirt brought in to bring the level of the backyard up to meet it. Starting this Spring, the driveway (asphalt) has buckled all along the length of the retaining wall, because the driveway was hollowed out underneath when they dug the footer. I will have to have this tended to before this Winter. I think at least some of these issues/expenses could have been mitigated with better planning and a more detailed contract. <br /> Despite all of that, there were positives too. Gary is very meticulous and conscientious working with the stone itself. I'm very happy with the fit of the cultured stone install on the house and the flagstone on the back patio - it looks beautiful. I believe that what he has built is very solid construction that should hold up over the long haul. When he was building the retaining wall, the level was out on each block as he tapped it level. There's rebar in the concrete of both the back patio and front porch anchored into the house. He discovered into the project that there was not adequate support in the existing wood framed chimney to hold the weight of the stone, which I appreciate him bringing to my attention so it could be addressed. Gary will take input and is generally easy to work with, so long as you discuss things in advance before he's into the task. Just initiate communication early and often to make sure you're on the same page. <br />"

"Everything went as planned; workers were invariably polite, professional and just flatly first rate. They showed up when they said they would, informed me if they weren't coming due to inclement weather, and the job (a considerable amount of work) was done in the amount of time they estimated almost to the day. Concrete replacement work was carefully done. <br /> <br /> I would add: there was no hard sell, no slick reports: just a professional who came to the house, did the estimate, and stated when the work would begin. They were slightly more expensive than some local firms, but I appreciated that they didn't waste my time suggesting cheaper "band-aid" approaches to what was a very serious problem. They looked at the situation, said what needed to be done, explained everything clearly and succinctly. And, they guarantee their work for the life of the structure."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Martins Ferry, OH

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
