"When it came to needing to replace our premium shake roof, I sought an outstanding company, using a premium product, at a fair price, who inspired my belief that they were going to back up their work. Honesty, Integrity, and a Work Ethic are traits that I have always sought. I found all of those characteristics, and values, in Integrity Roofing (Poulsbo) after having performed my due diligence, with four quotes from the areaâ s most respected roofing companies. Integrity Roofing won my confidence, and my business, with a very competitive quote. On the day that work began we chose to upgrade our skylights to operable skylights, and that change order was handled in a timely manner. After having the cedar shake roofing removed, plywood sheeting installed, and Malarkey Windsor roofing installed, I can report that everyone performed to my high expectations. Tony was my estimator; Steve mitigated a leak in our old roof to get us through the winter leak-free, per my choice to roof in the spring; Scott managed the production; and â Todoâ sâ crew delivered a quality, professional, installation. I especially want to thank each and every one of the individuals on â Todoâ sâ crew. The team that delivered those events reinforced my belief in the saying that if you go with the best, you are seldom disappointed. During my research I read the following in an unbiased review of Malarkey Roofing: â Malarkey asphalt shingles have a strong following among roofers, especially on the West Coast and in the Pacific North West.â â Malarkey shingles also get good ratings from homeowners. The consensus is that Malarkey products are a premium shingle at a higher price than most, but backed by above-average warranties.â"

"I hired Atlas roofing for my roof rework on two units. They were very professional and straight forward from the beginning (estimate) no sales pressure, no drama, very straight forward and presented the materials right. Pricing I feel was very fair / if not a steal after I saw how well of a job they did on my house. My only complaint was that my project manager went on vacation so there was some miscommunication with the details of my work but Berry handled it in a very professional manner and was very responsive in my communication with him. I will definitely recommend Atlas roofing to all my friends and family! Great job."

"We hired TEAM Roofing for a roof replacement for 4 townhomes. The experience was unmatched. We have worked with many contractors over the years and they were absolutely wonderful to work with. From the initial evaluation and quote, to the quality of materials and careful supply to the outstanding installation and post installation follow-up. Well done and would highly recommend if you are in the market for a roof. They answered all questions and concerns promptly and did a wonderful job. The installation team cleaned every area that they worked in and were so friendly and professional. Great job, and many thanks!"

"I can highly recommend J Plus Construction after the excellent work they did in transforming my wildly overgrown grass into a beautifully trimmed lawn surrounding my house. Two men worked tirelessly for approximately two hours and did everything I needed to be done with care and attention to my requests. I highly recommend this company."

"I believe North Star Roofing and Construction changed ownership sometime in the last few years or there are two companies with the same name, or something else is going on. I Googled Russ Oja who I always dealt with and found him on Linked In as the former owner. I looked on the Land I site
https://secure.lni.wa.gov/verify/Detail.aspx?UBI=602086881and LIC=NORTHSR994KUand SAW=
and found that Russ' license lapsed on 6/10/2012. So the North Star Roofing and Construction company that I dealt with is no more. Furthermore I see no North Star Roofing in Seattle listed on the Land I site.
I am writing this because Angie's List asked for a review. I'm not sure what I clicked or wrote that made them aware of my prior use of North Star. The North Star I used was addressed on Mukilteo Speedway in Lynwood. The North Star that Angie's List has prompted me to review is at 815 1st Ave in Seattle.

"Agron and his team were very professional, and managed to work us into their busy schedule within a week of providing us with an estimate. They repaired some rotted beams that several other roofing companies would not touch, and saved us money in the long run by replacing our roof at the same time. Agron kept us informed at each step of the way, and answered all our questions. It is obvious that he takes pride in doing the job correctly (not just quickly). He has years of experience in the Northwest, and is well-informed about how the weather here can affect a roof. We are very happy with our new roof!"

"WOW, WOW, WOW!, 15 stars for 3 different sections but I will elaborate. When you are looking for a home improvement (at least for me) you are considering 3 main components; price, quality and customer service, usually you sacrifice a little of one for the other but I’m not overselling when I tell you Bluegrass gets 5 stars for each. Price: 5 stars We got a few bids for our deck project. We needed demo and disposal of an existing structure and a new build of an expanded Trex deck. We needed full framing for a 2nd story structure and we didn’t want to do permitting ourselves so that was also on our list. Our bids were comparable, but Bluegrass was still marginally lower all things considered. Quality: 5 stars with a bullet I’m not sure the pictures will do it justice, but this frame is a beast. Full 5.5”x5.5” pressure treated posts poured into concrete, 2x7 trusses, they did not skimp. They did the framing just after our large snow storm of 2019 so the ground was presenting some unique challenges. We didn’t have the best drainage and cold temps were not ideal for concrete to cure, but Dan and team trenched a drain path for the water and used heat guns to make sure the concrete was solid before proceeding, I’ve included this detail because i don’t think other builders would have went to this length to solve the problem and would have waited for mother nature to cooperate. We love the Trex material and that will be standard no matter who you select, but where Bluegrass and team differentiate themselves is there experience and training with the product I don’t remember the specific title but lets just say they have a black belt from the Trex company. They will make sure every board is installed to Trex specification as to not void your warranty which is important. Our railing is the standard powder coated variety but we wanted a privacy screen built into a section for our barbecue. They did a beautiful trellis for us with cedar and added some lattice to complete the look. I can go on and on about the structure but this is already a long review, just know its spectacular. Customer Service: 5 stars or whatever is better than that From the initial visit to the final walkthrough Dan was phenomenal. My wife and I had a concept of what we wanted but needed some design help. Dan provided professional guidance and helped us avoid some pitfalls we otherwise would have regretted. The best compliment i could give is that whenever there was an issue or decision needed he gave us a couple options and his professional opinion as someone who has seen it before. To contrast, when our home was being built our home builder would put the onus on us to make a decision and wouldn’t give an opinion we MUCH prefer Dan’s style. At our initial visit, with snow still on the ground Dan took the time to show us visually outside what our concept would look like so we knew what size deck was going to meet our needs. Once we selected Bluegrass, Dan kept helping throughout and was flexible with changes when we had new ideas. He took the time to go to E&E lumber so we could see in person the different products and how they look in natural light. Lastly and most important INCREDIBLY RESPONSIVE AND INFORMATIVE. We were never in the dark on what was happening with our project day by day, every question answered almost immediately and always there when they said they would be. Dan was very intuitive of when to contact us with how something would look before proceeding which we loved, also every person on his team was courteous, not that i think that’s a requirement but it was an added bonus, finally their restoration of our yard was above and beyond. They left the project site in better condition than when they started. in summary BEST CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE EVER."

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Marysville, WA

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
