"I highly recommend John Giddings who installed sidewalks and a concrete patio for me. His attention to detail was impressive, and the finished work exceeded my expectations. The quality craftsmanship and timely completion make them a top choice for any concrete projects. Overall, a 5-star experience and higher."

"Mike was a great contractor. When the adjuster gave the amount the water co. would pay for damages. Mike stepped in and had them readjust the amount since they were only giving me have the amount it would cost to fix my basement. Mike went above and beyond to help in a very stressful situation. I would certainly recommend him to friends and family for their next contractor. I will call on him again."

"-Everything went as planned <br /> -Total time was bout (2) days <br /> -Entire area was left clean and neat <br /> Tom built a portion of the retaining wall about two years ago. We recently installed a deck and wanted to finish the retaining wall. He did great work the first time and did again this time. It all blends together perfectly. What an amazing job. <br /> Note: We had heavy rain last year as everyone in this area did. The original retaining wall stayed put! <br /> I would recommend Tom to anyone that wants to build a retaining wall."

"It went great. First, the sales person was very helpful explaining the mold testing and remediation process. He went through the steps that would be taken and then he followed up with the results. On the french drain,/sump pump change out/ wall rebuild, it was quick and painless. Again my sales person was very clear in the process and the steps. When he came for a walk through there were some options in what would occur in the installation and he made fully aware of any potential changes in cost (there were none though). The workers came on time (ok a bit early) and finished early as well. Finally, they were helpful and clear walking through all the changes that occurred and the guarantees given."

"Ostrander Construction has been the best business we have worked with by far. They were polite and very easy to work with. They arrived on time and did the job better than we expected it. Dan went above and beyond by painting a spot on my wall that I couldn't reach myself. I would highly recommend Ostrander Construction and look forward to working with them again."

"I'm very undecided about if I would use the company again. I will give you the whole story, and you can decide. The work that was completed appears to be well done and the installers were very polite, that is not my problem with the experience. <br /> The Process up to Install: <br /> I called up for an estimate to replace my windows in August and within a few days they came out. I was told I would get an estimate in 2 days. After four passed and I emailed them to see why I hadn't heard from them, I got scolded for not being patient, because and quot;these things take timeand quot;. I let this slide, because the price they gave me was very good. So good that I was able to replace all four windows, despite thinking that there was no way I could afford to do so. I signed the contract, sent in my downpayment...and didn't hear from them for something like 13 days. Given that the contract stated they had a month to install from the contract date, I lost patience and began to call to have measurements taken. The process was supposed to be sign contract-have precise measurements taken-order the windows (their responsibility)-and then once the windows come in, schedule the installation. Now by the time I heard back from them, after I called and left two messages (after over 2 weeks of hearing nothing from them) half of the allotted time had gone by. When I called, I spoke to one of the most rude women I have ever had the misfortune of speaking to. <br /> I always start conversations with and quot;Hello! How are you?and quot; the response I got was and quot; What do you want?and quot;, in a snippy tone, without any regard for the fact that they didn't know who I was, or why I was calling...since I hadn't said anything beyond and quot; How are youand quot; yet. I complained about this immediately when passed to another individual but as every time I called I got this treatment, it seems to have fallen on deaf ears. <br /> Now, after leaving two messages I called again and finally got to speak to someone who I needed to...his response was and quot;Oh I was just about to call youand quot;, and then he scheduled the measurement process. The measurement process took under 10 minutes and should not have taken as long as it did to take place. Then further waiting and no returned calls before I finally got a hold of someone about whether or not the windows had come in. I was told I'd be informed when they did so we could schedule an install (I was apparently the only one concerned about staying within the contract timeline). I was not called that day, but I finally got to speak to someone to schedule the install. Phew, it was going to happen within the timeline. My concern, for those of you wondering what the big deal is about the timeline was twofold: if the contract was broken, the price could in theory be raised, even though I was not the one in violation, secondly...it was getting cold out and gaping holes in the side of my house wasn't an ideal start to true fall temperatures. <br /> The Install: <br /> Despite the trouble I had getting the guys to my home, once they were there the process could not have been better. They were on time, and did (as far as I can tell) a fantastic job. They were even respectful of my inconvenient request that no shoes be worn in the house. The windows were in pretty bad shape and I imagine it was not a simple job. If I were forced to complain about this part of the process, they did not clean up sawdust on the inside of the house (limited to the kitchen window) and two of the windows need to have touch up paint and filled in chunks of plaster. I'm not wildly upset about this as the house did not come in great shape and I have to fix everything anyway. <br /> Afterwards: <br /> I noticed a draft coming from one of the windows just before hurricane Sandy hit our area. I called to report this concern. Needless to say getting a hold of someone was again very difficult. I finally got someone to come and take a look at the window, the week after Sandy hit (luckily no damage for me). I was told that there was nothing wrong with the install so it must be a problem with the window itself, they were going to contact the company who made the window and get back in touch with me. The getting back in touch with me part, never happened. I, quite frankly, have given up trying to contact them about this. It's not worth the frustration on my part anymore. <br /> In summary: The work that was done seems to be quality work. The customer service is lacking. My decision to say that I would not use the company again is based off of the hassle of the process and the rude answering staff. If I could just have the work done, without talking to the staff I would probably use them again...but as that's not possible, I'll be looking elsewhere for future needs. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Meshoppen, PA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
