"My basement was getting some water in a corner during a heavy rain and I was able to have that corner repaired and also have a sump pump installed that can communicate with my phone and give me alerts to my phone if something isnâ t working properly. The new sump pump alone was worth everything."

"Mid-State Basement Systems came highly recommended by a good friend from Buffalo, NY and they did not disappoint. From start to finish they were very professional yet personable. Larry & Phil in the initial stages of the basement inspection and a reasonable quote. Silvino and his team who done the actual work was incredible, done with absolute excellence. They were here when they said they would be and finished the job a day ahead of schedule. I am thoroughly pleased with this company, first class. I highly recommend them if you need work done on your basement.******"

"I had OBA install outdoor french drains and new downspouts a couple of years before they waterproofed my basement. They were the only company I could find who did it all. Basement waterproofing included removing old, putting in new: full inside perimeter drainage, enlarge sump pit, 2 sump pumps, I-beams and carbon fiber straps. Added in brand new: battery backup for sump and vapor barrier on most affected wall. When my basement got wet a year later after the work was done, they didn't hesitate to schedule someone to inspect. If was heavy condensation, barely a thin puddle compared to 2 inches of flowing water. They had to rework a 6 ft section and add cement around the I-beams, each on their own call outs. They didn't charge because I have a lifetime warranty, transferable to the next owner. I'll be working with them again soon for a professional level dehumidifier."

"I had a drain from my gutter downspout stopped up which was causing water to backup into my sunroom. They came quickly and told me what they would do which was to cleanout all the drain from the gutters of which I had five. I had already discontected two downspouts at my sunroom to expose the opening from the drain. They hooked up their pressure hose to the first drain and that cured my problem. They were here and gone in 20 minutes. They collected payment of $400. When I asked why it was so high they said they charge and flat rate for jobs however I thought that would be for all five downspouts. They emailed me the bill and on that were some items that I had done myself such a disconnecting and reconnecting the downspouts. They were there quick and did a good job but anyone using them should get a proposal saying exactly what they are charging for and make sure they do everything on that proposal."

"We purchased a late 1930?s home in Clintonville in late December, 2011. One of the recommendations of the home inspector that we hired was that we switch out the old Federal Pacific electric panel in the basement.  Matt Wehrle was recommended by a friend-of-a-friend who was very impressed with the work that he had done for her in her Clintonville home. When I had heard that he was a local family man, we were immediately interested because we like to hire local folks who have homes of their own in the area and who also have families to feed. <br /> I called Matt on Tuesday (9/17) and arranged to meet him at my house the next day (Wednesday). I was immediately impressed with his background, professionalism, and particularly his knowledge as he informed that the Federal Pacific electric panels were known notoriously to be fire hazards! (House inspector never mentioned that part!) His estimate was pretty much in line with the other estimates I had been given prior to our meeting so, all things considered,  I hired him on the spot. When I asked him how soon he could start, I was surprised when he said ?how?s Monday morning sound??.say 8:30?9:00??   ?.and so the date was set! <br /> They (Matt and his co-worker, Craig) arrived a head of time and got started promptly, just as soon as they walked in the door. I left a few times to go out and run some errands and when I returned, they were working just as consistently as when I had left them. They were both extremely polite and courteous and I rather enjoyed their company. Being somewhat of a geek myself, I asked numerous questions about what they were doing and how they were doing it?and they were both quite willing to take the time to explain. I was particularly interested in Craig?s profound knowledge of the history of electrical wiring; how it used to be in early years versus how it?s done today. On separate occasions, I took them each through the house to discuss other projects for which I would need the benefit of their expertise. <br /> Both gentlemen were a delight and the job they did was quite spectacular. They upgraded me to a 200 AMP service panel, installed a new metering system outside, and installed a whole-house surge protector?.all in about 5 hours. They cleaned up after themselves when they were finished. <br /> It?s hard to find folks (you trust) who are willing to work hard to produce a GOOD PRODUCT. We can now scratch one more task off of our very long list! <br /> I was very impressed with Matt Wehrle Electric and I will certainly use them again for future projects. I now have Matt?s number on my speed dial. J <br />"

"Went very well. They came quickly and called when they left the office. Workers were very polite and kept at the job. They put a chemical in to break up the sludge. When that didn't work they pulled the pump and got the water flowing. <br />"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Millersport, OH

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
