"It went very well, but it was expensive. I had been trying to get someone to come out to work on my leak for quite some time. I called at least 10 plumbers and nobody could come out because they were booked up. Benjamin Franklin told me they could have someone out within about 2 hours so I reluctantly agreed to the $69 service call fee. When they workmen showed up they were very professional both in appearance and mannerisms. They answered all my questions with a high degree of professionalism and told me that since the leak was in the foundation, I would have to pay for HydroScout to come out and pinpoint my leak.
He gave me an estimate for tearing up the floor and repairing the leak once the leak location had been pointed out by the guy from HydroScout. I had HydroScout come out do the assessment. He recommended the repair be done overhead with pex tubing instead of tearing up my hardwood floor to do the repair especially since our house is over 30 years old and the remaining copper pipe might start leaking under the foundation at a different location later on. That sounded like good advice, so I had the HydroScout guy call Benjamin Franklin to explain what he recommended.
When the crew came back I took notice of their truck which seemed to be well-equipped and in good condition and also noted that there were two plumbers who came on the call. I thought that was a little unusual to see two guys coming to a plumbing call but it seems like a very good (albeit more expensive) way to do it. A crew can do so much more than someone working by themselves. Clifford gave me an estimate and even though I thought it was on the high side, he assured me that was the total price for the job I needed done so I knew in advance exactly what it would cost.
If they had been wrong about how much work it would be, they would have paid the price by having to do the job for less than it was probably worth. On the other hand, if they did a good job and everything went perfectly, they would be well paid. Either way, I would have my problem solved with a 2 year guarantee. They ended up spending a total of about 5 hours on my job including the two trips to estimate and troubleshoot the problem. Since there were two of them, that was about 10 man hours and at the cost of $900 was about $90 an hour per man.
That is a lot of money but they came out right away and were as professional and cooperative with me as I could ever expect from a plumber. When you consider the overhead of maintaining a company with well stocked trucks like that, it's really not such a bad deal. Both of the guys that came out were very experienced and skilled and they deserve to be paid well. Who knows, maybe if we manage to get some sanity in our government and get rid of ObamaCare, the company will be able to forecast lower operating costs and everyone will be able to do the same work for less money."
