"They installed a Radon Mitigation system in a house I was selling. They had the best price, the experience I wanted, and were able to install a few days after I called. Technician was very nice and efficient in getting it installed. Good warranty too. I had my system installed in an encapsulated crawl space."

"National Radon Defense Midwest employees were very knowledgeable and helpful. As we were selling our house we discovered that we had high radon readings and needed to mitigate the problem. They explained to us the process and clearly identified what they would recommend to resolve the issue. We thought it was very reasonably priced and feel confident intheir products, staff and installation"

"This is the second house Mr. Wayman inspected for my family. Thank heavens we found him! Don't ever trust the inspector that the real estate agent chooses because they would not be independent in their evaluations. They just want the commission for the inspection. However, Mr. Wayman was incredibly thorough. I've rehabbed several houses, so I'm a DIY when possible. Mr. Wayman let me tag along with him so he could comment on what he was seeing, and also what would require a licensed pro. I feel much safer knowing what condition the many systems (electrical, plumbing, foundations, etc.) are in the current house I am buying. It helps to calculated future expenses. Many kudos!"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"This was the 2nd job I had this contractor do for me. Last summer I had them replace an a/c and furnace at my residence. I liked their work and the fact that since they are a small company, their overhead is not as high as the big companies in Omaha. They underbid the competitors by about $1000, which is music to my ears. They showed up on time 2 days before the install to measure for the necessary ductwork modifications and 2 days later, they were also on time and finished the work in a single 'long' day. It took from 8:30 AM until after 6 PM to get everything done. If I ever need more A/C work, I'll be calling them. <br />"

"I contacted Jerry's basement regarding a strange sump pump drainage situation.  A rep from Jerry's came out to examine the drainage situation with my sump pump.  He pointed out some options and a simple fix that he advised me on how to complete myself if I was interested and wanted to save money.  I appreciated his honesty even though it cost him a bit of money.  Definitely plan on using them next year when we plan to upgrade our sump pump to a backup system. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Missouri Valley, IA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
