"Sturgis took care of our radon problem in a very efficient professional manner. Not the cheapest definitely the best in my opinion. It’s worth it to know that we’re safe."

"John was prompt and polite. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions as he went through the inspection and even gave us tips and hints on how to repair or improve certain items (example: he recommended adding gravel around an outdoor shed to help water drain away from the base of the shed..). The inspection lasted about 5 hours on a 2100 square foot home! John was VERY thorough- just like the other reviewers said he would be. He opened every door, every drawer and every cabinet. He examined every wall, door frame, door, etc. He ran the water in all the faucets, checked every step and every banister. He took very thorough notes, and we received a summary of the inspection within 48 hours via email. We then received the full report, along with pictures and additional "homecare" information via mail within the week. The only thing I want to note is that John measured high CO2 levels in 2 places. However, when the home owners had the fire department and a second inspector check the levels, they found that they were below normal. I'm not sure why that was. We still plan on installing CO2 detectors."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"After living in our home for 18+ years, we decided it was time to do some remodeling/ renovations. It was newly built at the time of our purchase. Before beginning our remodeling/renovation projects, we wanted to have a home inspection to find out what was needed. We made an appointment with Lee. There are times when you meet someone for the first time and felt like you have known them for a lifetime. That is the case with Lee. He has a pleasant disposition about him and to say his work is top-notch is an understatement! After thoroughly inspecting our home, Lee showed all of the photos he had taken, both inside and outside our home, and described in detail what repairs/updates needed to be completed. I mentioned other projects to him other about various repairs that other technicians have made about work that needs to be completed. Lee suggested to get another estimate and to let him know what their conclusion was (just to make sure we are not being “scammed”). His inspection report and the discussion we had was so thorough, that I actually printed out the entire report and have divided it into sections in a notebook based on the type of repairs/updates we need and what technician should do the designated repairs. It was also amazing how many things were not up to code based upon what was not required when the house was initially built. Lee also conducted a Radon test along with the home inspection. Once we have completed the repairs/updates, we plan to call Lee back to re-inspect to make sure they are up-to-code. I now feel more comfortable in beginning our remodeling/renovation projects. Before you begin your remodeling/renovation project(s) or plan to sell your home, make it a point to contact Lee."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Mocksville, NC

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
