"First, I tried calling Angie’s list several times on phone to complain. I was just transferred from one person to another person. Finally I tried a different number and got a person who sent this link. Tried doing this back in June and by the time I finished writing it all, the computer acted weird and all info I put in was lost, not saved. Maybe that was on your end. At any rate, I’m going to make it shorter this time and get this legitimate complaint to your company once and for all. I previously/originally hired John (JRC HOME IMPROVEMENTS JHI) last November. All went good on that. Contacted him again early part of May to hang shelves, towel bars, curtain rod, couple pictures. Also told him wanted new weatherstripping around kitchen door, coming from garage. Basically the guy talks A LOT. When I showed him door, he then proceeded to tell me how it was messed up, blah, blah, blah from previous people. I CLEARLY EXPLAINED TO HIM that I was only renting this house. He showed me a small area on door that he said he could fix. I agreed to it because I thought it would be just that - a small fix. He got everything hung Monday. Came back next day (7th) to do the door. I left kitchen area, so I did not see that he had taken the entire door frame off. There was a lot of saw noise and when I came out to look, I saw he had entire door frame off. I did not say anything and I should have. He didn’t get there til almost 1:00, then left to get his son and didn’t return til almost 3:30-4:00. I was getting very upset by then. He finally got most of it done by almost 7. But it wasn’t all done as he said he had to come back and do small touch up paint. He had charged me $250 from day before. Which I paid in cash. He wanted $484.41 for this door. I think $219.41 is for supplies he bought to fix this door. I gave him another $200 in cash and put $284.41 on a card. I WAS SO UPSET, I JUST WANTED HIM GONE. The weekend went by & I finally called him Tuesday or Wednesday for him to come do touch up paint. I confronted him with it after he finished that up and basically said, this work was overpriced and I told you I only wanted some new weatherstripping and I come out here and you’re doing who knows what with this door….he said well I agreed to it and said he wasn’t giving me $200 back (I told him I thought he should give me back $200) then he asked which door would you like me to leave from? I feel I was OVERCHARGED VERY MUCH. for hanging a few things on the wall and new towel bars and tell him explicitly I only wanted new weatherstripping and HE suggested doing the work on the door, MAKING ME BELIEVE IT WOULD BE A MINOR, SMALL REPAIR AND IT TURNED INTO SOMETHING THAT HE CHARGED ME ALMOST $500 FOR? BECAUSE I HAD TO PAY $219 For the supplies- on detailed work that I never wanted to begin with? PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING ME A REFUND OF $200.00. THANK YOU."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Monterey, TN

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
