"When I decided to update my kitchen cabinets. I immediately thought of Vitaly of Restoration Guild. He had previously restored vintage furniture for me, and the results were outstanding. After calling for advice and estimates on the cabinets, Vitaly responded promptly and we discussed possible treatments for my 1950's era knotty pine cabinets. These cabinets had been covered wth many coats of various types of finish and had several areas where the wood was damaged. I wanted a drastic change which would lighten the kitchen. We discussed options and narrowed it down to either a light natural finish or a whitewashed finish. Vitaly actually took one of the cabinet doors to his workshop and sanded it to the bare wood. He put a natural finish on one side and the whitewash on the other. The results of both were amazing and I chose the whitewash. We discussed the process, repairing the damaged areas, and making doors for the island which had open shelves. His price was reasonable and in line with other estimates. I knew I would be comfortable with Vitaly and his workers being in my home.
The process began with sanding to the bare wood. Doors, drawers, and molding were taken to the workshop and the frames were sanded here with very little residue or mess. Watching Vitaly work on the multiple coats of whitewash and glaze showed me that he was a true artist. Every step was carefully done, and I was consulted during the many stages to make sure that I was happy with the resulting color and effects. Vitaly was very concerned that the new doors he built perfectly matched the original style of the cabinets. He was even able to find matching vintage hardware. I am totally happy with my cabinets. They are just what I envisioned. I have the highest regard for the work of Restoration Guild and would highly recommend them to anyone. The professionalism, talent, and attitude make Restoration Guild an outstanding business. Vitaly is totally concerned with achieving the results desired and pleasing the client. He is a very talented craftsman and artist. I definitely plan to use him for future projects.

"

"The work took longer than I expected, but was done extremely well. I like these cabinets better than the Wood-Mode ones they were made to match. The dimensions and quality were spot-on. The finish was perfect upon installation, but has darkened some since - attesting to the difficulty of matching 20-year-old finishes. The cost of the same cabinets, without the two extra doors and wine rack, was about $1,000 more from Wood-Mode. Another cabinet maker cost was about the same as Concept's.
About 6 months after I replaced the small wine storage unit with a Sub-Zero unit. Concepts made a perfectly matching frame for the door.
I'm considering Concepts in Wood for my vanity when I remodel the master bath.
"

"This was a two day project. BathRenew's installers arrived promptly both days. The first day they began by reviewing the project space and laying out drop cloths for any areas that they would need to walk through in order to complete their work. The plumbing fixtures were removed and set aside for re-installation. Then they striped the walls around the tub to the bare studs and removed the existing bathtub.
Next, they reinforced the subflooring under the tub area to account for the extra water weight that this tub was able to hold. The new tub was then set in place and leveled before fastening to the stud walls. The new wallboard was then installed above the tub as the base for the new tub surround. Any necessary supporting elements needed to properly install the tub surround was added prior to installing the new wall board. All work areas were cleaned and pathways into the work space were cleaned prior to leaving for the day.
The second day, BathRenew finished the installation of the tub surround, connected the drain for the tub and reinstalled the plumbing fixtures. All seams were caulked and a final cleaning and inspection was performed.
NOTE: The installers used the garage to make any cuts. The garage was broom cleaned at the end of each day. Additionally, they layed down a vinyl barrier to protect the driveway at the end of their truck to ensure that there would be no damage to the driveway's surface.
"

"My garage floor had buckled badly from tree roots. After the tree was removed by another company Sal Arcuri, Sr. and his crew came in and removed a large triple cabinet that was attached to the floor along with the steps going into the garage. Then, with a jack hammer, sledge hammers and shovels they pains-takingly broke up and removed the old concrete floor. Wow--that is back-breaking work! They brought in crushed stone, tamped it into place, then poured a 4" thick concrete floor. He secured the cabinet back in place with special bracing that he made and then made new steps to replace the old rickety steps he had removed. The floor turned out GREAT! Friends & family who do construction work have told me that they were impressed with the job Hammer Time Construction did. I highly recommend this company.

"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Moravia, NY

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
