"We had Steve Phillips from Matrix Basement out to our home this evening. Steve was very polite and professional. Took the time to view our basement space, gave good insight and suggestions of what layout options would work best. Along, with drawing out the layout for us to visually see. Steve answered all of our questions. We look forward to working with Matrix Basements and having our basement space finished for our family to enjoy."

"The contractor was definitely professional.  They were not welcome to ideas that we had, but more so from a professional's point of view was only trying to give you one dimensional knowledge of what they could do.  That's not a bad thing b/c they are professionals."

"We have a 1958 ranch and the only bathroom had never been renovated. We wanted to start from scratch down to the studs for a 5’ x 8’ footprint. Sales person was very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable in selecting the various components and colors for the bathroom. The contract was very clear and detailed. Payment expectations were 1/3 upfront, 1/3 at the start of the project, and 1/3 at completion. The shower install was completed by Bath Works, which had a 12 month same as cash financing for the shower portion only. HWC coordinated and selected the various trades involved, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, shower install, and painting. The start of the project was pushed back several times, but communication was good. The actual work process was expertly done. The workmen were respectful, cleaned up each day, and were highly skilled. My wife and I are so satisfied with the end result. It is like going to the spa everyday. We intend to renovate the kitchen and basement down the road, and will definitely be turning to HWC in the future."

"After a bit of confusion (due to a previous quote from another technician) regarding our deep crawl space, we and Ayers finally made a joint decision on the best system to use. Gage Pederson, the Foreman, did an outstanding job of explaining what they were going to do, kept us totally informed each step of the way, and repeated everything, along with the warranty at the end of the job. We felt free to ask any questions and Gage replied with confidence and quickly. I can’t say enough about this young man’s professionalism. Ayers needs to keep him long term, and putting him in sales earlier than later. He really knows his stuff. He gave us complete confidence that the trenching and encapsulated system will work! Cody Redman and Andy Best were also on the job and did an outstanding job. All three of these guys worked their tails off, not stopping for long. When they left each day, Gage was sure to say what time they would return the next day. They called each day to say they were on their way, and showed up sooner than their expected arrival. It was a real pleasure getting to know each one of them, and they were excellent representatives for the Ayers company. Congrats to a job well done!"

"We have used Brunette company for different home projects over the years. This company has done roofing, siding, and remodeling projects at our home recently finishing our basement with a beautiful full bath, kitchenette, and gas fireplace. Always top quality materials and superior workmanship, this company consistently exceeds our expectations. A+ rated, licensed and insured, they are true craftsmen with integrity. Not always cheapest price, but we've learned you get what you pay for and we'll never go anywhere else. This company has dramatically increased the value of our home. We're proud to have used the very best."

"The doors seem to be of good quality, and  both the saleperson and the installer were competent, professional, and easy to work with. <br /> We did have to wait two months for the doors to arrive from the factory, which seems a long time; however, the salesperson was honest about telling us that upfront and maybe that is standard procedure for all companies. <br /> Overall, I think they did a fine job and would use them again and recommend them to others. <br />"

"I would highly recommend. Elvin assessed the job (painting), quoted accurately and the job turned out great. I was on vacation while the job was being done and received good communication during the process. I came home to everything completed and nothing out of place. Very professional and punctual!"

"Eric and Stephan met with us initially to examine the project and give us an estimate of cost and time. They were very friendly and professional and it was obvious that they had experience with this type of work. We were able to subtract some money from the original quote by doing some of the work ourselves.ie: removing trim and picking up supplies. They were able to schedule the work within a few weeks. The work took all day, from 10am to 7pm, since installation of french doors is tricky. It involved a lot of shimming and levelling. They did an excellent job and we are so glad that we used Woodstone Builders. We are confident that this door was installed properly. They worked cleanly and efficiently. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Nashville, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
