"Getting a whole house generator is a huge investment so I shopped around and got 4 quotes because of the wide range of cost estimates. Other people said the cost "would be around" an amount, and Brandon gave me a detailed exact price. Had people tell me different things about where I could put the generator. Brandon came out and explained everything and said I could put the generator where I wanted it. His crews (electrical, gas) were professional, appeared to know exactly what they were doing, worked efficiently, and left the job site very clean. Brandon provided everything I wanted--he has a long track record of installing generators, has been in business for many years, offered a 10 yr warranty, offers an annual check-up plan, and made sure I was happy with everything."

"<p>They bumped it off the existing wiring and then added new wiring. It was major electrical work; it was $7,000 worth of work. I know I won't call them again because for the amount of work we thought was going to be taken care of and the amount of money that we spent after it was all said and done things did not get done like we thought they would. The estimator said we did not talk about that, we did not talk about that and so on. So we did and, no, it did not get done, yet for $7.000 it was outpriced for sure. The things that we talked about initially we thought were included after it was said and done. We watched the workers the whole time they were working and we asked the workers why they were not doing specific jobs, they said it was not on their work order. Yet when we sat down and talked to the initial consultant about the estimate and all the work we wanted done, it was all supposed to be included. It became almost like nickel and diming us if we wanted to add this and we wanted to add that. We already thought all of that was included. The amount of work for $7,000 we were not satisfied with because we actually thought that more work would be done. When we asked about the work that we thought would be done they said it would be an additional cost. For what we paid for $7,000 we don't think the value was there. But the thing is that it got done and we had to call them back out here and inquire about overloading on a breaker -- things were flipping and stuff like that. Then we got the guy that initially came out and gave us the estimate give us a rundown on everything that  done and he kept saying we did not talk about those things. I think there were too many chiefs and not enough Indians. They only listen to what the work orders say; they won't do anything other than what is on the work order. The quality of the work looks good and they did what was expected. We did not want holes in the wall so they ran lines on the outside of the walls. The workers were willing to work with us when we asked them not to go a certain way or certain height to put it at a certain level and this and that. The quality of work seemed to be okay. When we had to call them back to have them come out there was no urgency. It just seemed like  whenever we called there and had a question about something and all that the workers could not do anything unless the supervisor came out. Finally when it was all said and done and we were starting to have electrical problems like a breaker blowing we had to call back and then they sent somebody out for a quality check. He fixed it.  The guys got here at 8:00 every morning and they started working but they did waste a lot of time kind of standing around talking. I mean, they got the job done -- it took them almost a week to do it. But they were punctual every morning. When it was time to go home in the afternoon they left at their scheduled time so whatever it was that they were working on they stopped and left. </p>"

"The structure we had is older and the electrical has been an issue for years. We must’ve had 5 or more companies come out to “fix it,” only to leave us a big bill and the issues resurfacing after a short while. Coast came in and was diligent, finding issues everyone else overlooked. They will get the call moving forward. "

"We really appreciate how organized Cole and project manager Devin are. They organized the subcontractors easily and were always just phone call away. They always came to check on the quality of work and addressed any questions or challenges that came up in a timely manner. The plumber and electrician they used for our bathroom project were very professional. We will be hiring them for more projects this year."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in New Orleans, LA

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
