"Worker was later than time frame agreed upon due to complications at a previous job, but I was kept informed that he would be late. However, when he arrived, he was very knowledgeable, professional, courteous and did a very thorough job which fixed a pretty complicated issue drain piping issue. Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality of his work, and would hire them again without hesitation."

"I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"Scott Graham and his crew were extremely easy to work with. The work crew was courteous to me and to each other - very professional. Everyone on the crew got along. They were neat - the spaces where they worked were cleaner when they left than before they started. Most important to all, the drains and pumps they installed solved my wet basement problem. I highly recommend AWS."

"The job was to put a sump pump and French drain into a crawl space off my basement. It was completed in a timely fashion. They removed all material in the crawl space and also sprayed an anti mold solution. When I called company to ask questions Jason kindly explained the answer."

"I placed an Angi service request and choose the first responder. I needed to replace the sewage ejector sump pump, and during the total basement plumbing inspection, a leak was discovered on the main line of the hot water boiler, with evidence of water around the base of the tank of the boiler area. After a discussion with the technician, I eventually decided to replace both items."

"From the estimate process until final product finished today, we could not be happier with BQ Initially was quoted a 2 day process to complete our Aquastop waterproofing system and sump pump replacement, Steve, Curtis, Pedro, and Josh arrived as promised at 7:30 and completed the job by 1:30. They explained the entire process and updated us throughout. They were very professional, efficient, and polite. Everything was explained about the new system and cleanup has the basement back to pre construction condition. We highly recommend BQ Basements and Concrete!"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in New Castle, DE

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
