"The other day the cold water kept running into my washing machine and would not stop other than turning it off at the wall. I did a quick internet search and found that 80% of the time that this happens it is the Water Inlet Valve that needs replacing. I called another A rated local service describing this and asking if they could bring a valve when they came. The response was that they needed to come to do a diagnostic, then would order the valve and then would come back a second time to do the actual repair. This made no sense other than feeling that they were just trying to build up the bill. I then called Jose from JM and described the condition. Before I could suggest ordering the part and making one trip he suggested that we do exactly that. He kept me up to date with regular texts about the status of the order and his expected arrival time. The part is installed and the machine works perfectly for about the same price as the other company's "diagnostic" visit. Any issues with appliances Jose get the first call from now on."

"While looking for a plumber to inspect and replace a leaking water heater, I found Rapid Repairs.  I called the number, and was directed to send a text message if I needed a emergent response.  After only a few minutes, I got a response in a text message addressing my issue.  They were professional and answered my questions as best he could without being at my house.  I even got estimates based on my answers.  The only reason I did not utilize their service was that I needed hot water immediately, and they were already on multiple service calls, meaning the earliest they could come out would be Monday.
I would definitely use them in the future, I was very happy with the response and appreciated that he was polite and understood that I couldn't wait for them to become available.

"Even though HomeAdvisor had me set an appointment, Jared was able to come out much sooner (thank goodness!). My issue was freezer thawing and fridge freezing in a side-by-side! He found my first problem immediately in the fridge (damper stuck open so the cold air was flowing constantly into the refrigerator) and then we cleaned out the freezer and discovered the evaporator assembly was not cooling completely - likely due to a clog in coils that send freon through the system. Suggested that given the age of the appliance + cost to repair I should be able to find a replacement for just a bit more than the repairs. He even did a quick search for me to give me some ideas and recommendations ! Then when he wasn't going to repair the fridge we went through the other appliances in my kitchen and he told me a few things to be aware of I will definitely call him again when it's time to replace the others to get his recommendations!"

FAQs for appliance (smaller size) installation and replacement projects in New Fairfield, CT

Garbage disposals last around 10 years when properly maintained. If your unit is getting close to that age or repair costs are increasing, it might be time to consider a replacement. Regular maintenance and careful use can help maximize your garbage disposal's performance and help it reach its maximum lifespan.

There are several signs to watch for that indicate your garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Replacement may be necessary if it doesn't work even though it's properly connected, the blades are worn and causing delays in operation, a persistent foul odor that won't go away, or leaks coming from the bottom due to a compromised seal. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it might be time to consider getting a new garbage disposal to keep your kitchen running smoothly.

A plumber or handyperson can install your garbage disposal if the electrical connections are already in place. If you need additional electrical work, you'll also need to hire a qualified electrician to handle the rest of the job. Hiring local professionals ensures the installation is safe and up to code.

It’s important to avoid putting certain items down the drain to keep your garbage disposal running smoothly and avoid clogs. Expandable foods like pasta, rice, oatmeal, and bread can swell and cause blockages. Coffee grounds, grease, fats, and oils can accumulate and create clogs. Hard items such as meat bones, nuts, and fruit pits can damage the disposal blades. Eggshells, potato peels, and fibrous vegetables such as celery, pumpkin, corn husks, artichokes, onion skins, and asparagus can wrap around the blades or obstruct the pipes.

Not every sink is suitable for the installation of a garbage disposal. The compatibility of the sink with the disposal depends on the material and structural integrity. While many standard sinks support these units, fireclay sinks are prone to cracking under the added stress and should not be used. Confirm that your sink can securely accommodate the disposal before installation.

Choosing the correct size garbage disposal depends on your household size and how much waste you produce. A 1/3–1/2 horsepower unit should be sufficient for households with one to two people. If your household consists of three to six people, a 1/2–3/4 horsepower unit is recommended. FA3/4–1 horsepower model will be necessary. For larger households of five to eight people
