"I'd already gotten my test results of radon gas being at 7.8 in my house, so Affordable Environmental Services was one of the companies I called about getting an estimate. The owner came out that afternoon and was on time, was very courteous and professional. I was immediately impressed with the time he spent to examine everything carefully, taking notes. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them--he was very knowledgeable. He sketched out how he would design the system, which I liked. Within a few hours of his visit, he emailed me a proposal and called to see if I had any questions. His price was in line with the other estimates I got and I decided to go with AES because I could tell by how thoroughly he examined and explained everything that he'd do a good job, and he did. He showed up on time and worked very hard installing the system. He did an outstanding job, cleaned everything up thoroughly and I couldn't have asked for more. The system brought the radon level down to 1.1 which is lower than we thought. I recommend this company highly for their promptness, professionalism and good work."

"Mark Pondo showed up on time to perform the house inspection. He was professional and thorough and kept me updated as he want thru the inspection for the time I was on the property with him. Mark promised that we would have the report by the night of the inspection and it was in my inbox email on the night of the inspection. I feel confident in the validity of the issues addressed in his report especially the gas leak. The homeowner had his heating and air conditioning company out to his house on the same day and they confirmed the gas leak and has been corrected. <br /> I would highly recommend Mark and his company A Rock Solid Home Inspection, LLC to anyone when they are in need of a qualified and professional home inspection. <br />"

"My next door neighbor had a Radon removal system installed a year or so ago.  Made me think!  If he's got Radon, then maybe I do too.  A very smart real estate client of mine knew of Inspector Paul ad hired him for the home inspection on a 600k home (in which I represented him in the transaction).  After speaking with Paul at that inspection, I decided to hire him to do Radon testing at my home. Efficient, professional, and a joy to have in my home.  Pleased to say our Radon level was quite low, but the money was well spent. As a Realtor®, part of my job is to make clients aware of the potential harm that Radon gas can cause and give them the information and the option to have an inspection done. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in New London, NC

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
