"We've worked with Eddie and General Brick Designs a few times over the years, since purchasing our first house. We bought an old house which we love, flaws and all. One of its biggest flaws is that the foundation was not originally adequately done to support the house and keep water out, and has been deteriorating over time. The first time we hired him we were in a panic, with water seeping up through our basement floor after heavy rains. We had met with 3 or 4 people, he was the only one who was able to correctly diagnose and fix the problem.  We've hired Eddie and his team to make the repairs that we have needed to over time, and recently worked with him to repair a large section. It was a very tricky, big job in a narrow space on the side of our house. His team carefully and surgically hand dug a trench, in the process working around, and supporting, a chimney and two brand new stone landings into our house. He's an excellent problem solver. He told us he stayed up most of the night before crafting the design and solution, and met with us to walk us through a few different options. He knows how to present facts and information, pros and cons, help you make a decision, with a balance. He's clear about the approach and materials he is using. We're curious people and want to know everything. We're already planning a small patio adjacent to the back of the house, and his vision and design is perfect. He did another small patio for us a few years back, and can do both "practical" repair work like a foundation repair, as well as skilled stone work and design. Being both a mason and an engineer gives him a unique perspective on any job and challenge.  His team is consistently a pleasure to have on our property. They had to remove a cement bib, stone border and gravel on the side of the house, and put it back better than it was before. He also fixed a problematic gutter drain and corrected an issue with overflow in heavy rains. We feel very relieved and have deep peace of mind that our house has been properly structurally fortified and is now able to withstand whatever nature and time will do. Lastly, he's just a good human being who enjoys what he does and is generous with his time and expertise, always happy to answer any questions, super responsive."

"The service team was prompt, courteous, organized and very professional in all aspects of the work. For the stoop work I was extremely satisfied not only because of the overall craftsmanship but also because of the ability of the team to understand the need to integrate two kinds of brick (some old and some new) that had to appear consistent with the design of an adjacent walkway and landing made of the same brick. For the service involving that back patio, I was also extremely satisfied because the brick pattern was correctly reconstructed, the leveling was very successful for walking on and also that one could not see where the repair was done. The team respected all areas of the property, using dropcloths for protecting surfaces while working and covering the re-cementing work with plastic to protect it from a coming rainstorm. They were also careful about cleaning up afterwards including moving of the excess brick to a back area of the property that I preferred for storage. <br />"

"Andrew from Forte Brick & Concrete returns calls promptly and after agreeing on the price and work we made an appointment to commence the project. He and his father Peter do very fine work and are clean and neat as well as doing their work with a smile. Forte Brick & Concrete removed previously used handyman caulking that was used to seal some cracks (which looked like an eyesore) and corrected the cracks to look natural and not noticeable as well as repairing newer cracks in brickwork in the same manner. Everything was done as expected and they found 2 additional cracks which we missed during the initial inspection which they also fixed pro bono. Forte Brick and Concrete are very professional and expert in their field. I would not hesitate to use their skills again should the need arise. My brick retaining walls, patio and flower box are back to looking spiffy. Thank you Andrew and Peter for your expertise and professionalism ."

"They just finished a relatively small job for us and did terrific work. Careful, well-organized, efficient- done right with proper base preparation and execution... And it looks great. Our job included 2 bluestone areas- a front walk about 15x10 and other a space for grill etc as well as adding an extra step t a garage entrance which had been done incorrectly by a builder. They used our bluestone for the bluestone areas and obtained perfect bluestone match for the step. Chuck is the senior man; CJ his son was on the site everyday, very good with the design aspects and manual efforts as well and their men knew what they were doing, pleasant and did a great job. The finished up by feathering edges with new topsoil and grass seed and fertilizer. They have the right experience, knowhow and equipment. We are very pleased."

"Shawn had done work for us twice before (bathtub enclosure walls, kitchen backsplash) so we reached out to him in June when we started our guest bathroom remodel project.   <br /> During the ensuing three months while we went through a complete tear-out, addition of a pony wall,  replacement of the shower pan, and getting delivery on the tiles, we bombarded Shawn, Dana, and Faith with questions as they came up. As quickly as we asked, we got answers.  Shawn even went the extra mile by coming out to the house twice to offer suggestions on various construction questions. <br /> Once we were ready to go with the tiling, we were given a starting date and a work plan.  From that point, it was simply fun to watch a professional do a great job.  Over the four days it took to complet the job, Shawn and his crew arrived on time and got straight to work.  To ensure that they stayed on schedule, they worked into the evening as needed to complete the tasks for that day.  Each day they cleaned up the work area and when the job was complete they even swept up in the garage. <br /> The walls and floor look absolutely great. <br /> Suffice it to say that we were completely satisfied with the entire process and working with Shawn, Dana, and Faith was a real pleasure."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in New-suffolk, NY

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
