"This business appears to be well versed in their trade and presented a very detailed and informative evaluation that also gave us some alternatives to consider with the costs. We just felt we needed to look at other contractors and their approaches to our basement issues. They wanted an answer soon and we need to see what other contractors have to offer. We perhaps should also have waited until things settle down with our family activities - graduations and a ten day trip. Look to make some decision by mid to late June."

"Expensive $11.5K to put in a shower in place of a tub, done in one day. Asked for brushed nickel, but got chrome everything. Asked for 2 shelves but just got 1 which they say is standard. They came back next day with 2nd shelf insisting I did not order. I do not know how a family can get by with 1 little shelf for shampoos and soaps, or why one would be standard. They left wall unfinished and floor untrimmed. Minimal retrofit. It works. Plastic and chrome, but works for now. My other retrofit tub with 6 shelves cost $1750 installed labor + materials, 1/10th the price."

"We have a 1958 ranch and the only bathroom had never been renovated. We wanted to start from scratch down to the studs for a 5’ x 8’ footprint. Sales person was very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable in selecting the various components and colors for the bathroom. The contract was very clear and detailed. Payment expectations were 1/3 upfront, 1/3 at the start of the project, and 1/3 at completion. The shower install was completed by Bath Works, which had a 12 month same as cash financing for the shower portion only. HWC coordinated and selected the various trades involved, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, shower install, and painting. The start of the project was pushed back several times, but communication was good. The actual work process was expertly done. The workmen were respectful, cleaned up each day, and were highly skilled. My wife and I are so satisfied with the end result. It is like going to the spa everyday. We intend to renovate the kitchen and basement down the road, and will definitely be turning to HWC in the future."

"I liked them and they were very nice. I had no problem with them. First time I had them give me a bid for the property which I was planning to buy but I didn't purchase then house. It was a bid for some major work and the price was good. They were very good. They explained to me what they were going to do and how much it would cost. I explained the explanation that was given. Second time I used them when I purchased another house and they did work for me there. The price wasn't really that low and I thought that it was kind of high for the job. They were punctual, good and they showed up when they said. Not just the people who came over to do the work were good but the person in the office was also very helpful. They were very nice when I called to make the appointment. I really appreciated the punctuality."

"I am the son-in-law from out of town.  My 85 year old mother-in-law was having some trouble with her back that put her in the hospital for a couple of days, so while she was out of the house I wanted to get her a taller toilet to help with her back.  I got to Ludington about 9:00 in the morning and picked out a toilet at Home Depot.  The helpful lady at the Home Depot desk gave me the number for Scholten's Plumbing as someone that she would recommend.  I called and left Scholten's Plumbing a message about 10:00 AM and they called me back around 2:00 PM.  After explaining my situation they had a man at my mother-in-laws house in 30 minutes.  Walter, the plumber who came to the house, was very polite and professional.  He had the new toilet in, the old toilet out of the house and was all done in about an hour.  The job was done the same day I called, ready for my mother-in-law when she came home, beautifully done and on very short notice.  I can't thank Scholten Plumbing enough and I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing plumbing work done. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Newaygo, MI

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
