After our initial appointment, he was able to schedule the work shortly after. He quoted 3-4 weeks from start to finish, which was accurate, despite the weather not always cooperating. They were very professional, efficient and detail oriented (to the point that they re-did an area that they didn’t like the way the finished product came out). "This is not the review I did 4 seconds after they finished the job - this is the review 16 months after the job. Years ago, we had our windows done. Mind you, their salespeople are extraordinarily assertive, personable and charming - and rightfully so, as they will spend hours and hours in your home making and finalizing the sale, as well as closing out your project. The problem is, they talk super proudly about their lifetime transferable warranty - which "covers absolutely everything! No matter what! You can take a razor blade to the screens just because you feel like it and they will be replaced, no questions asked!" This...is not true. The warranty is like all other warranties - subject to defects and defective installation only. No coverage for wear and tear, issues due to neglect/accidents, acts of god or anything related to weather or the elements. In fact, even if you paint over it or have work done by outside companies that affect the product in any way, the warranty could be voided. It was ABSOLUTELY sold to us as though NOTHING was out of bounds as far as repair/replacement was concerned. Shame on us for not going through all the warranty info with a fine-toothed comb, but the pep rallies by the salesmen we had ( one sold us windows, the other siding/gutters/trim) really get you excited. You love these guys and totally trust them for their enthusiasm and knowledge. You would not believe how much they push that their warranty covers EVERYTHING - FOREVER! So either these guys are trained to tell us something other than the truth and don't read the warranties themselves, or they lie for the sale and keep you in their pockets until the project is over, when you never hear from them again. Any issues we called about AFTER they physically left our property, were ignored or put off until forever - such as debris from work left for over a month on our front lawn, or nails that we were promised would be picked up thoroughly using a metal detector so our child wouldn't puncture his little feet (made them come back twice and they still did a pretty terrible job - are those nails even magnetic???), or the shutters they were supposed to change out for us. The quality of the materials is extremely high. The quality of the work done was high. The customer service, when all is going great, is awesome. Once you have a complaint though, they are nearly unreachable. They don't want to hear it. You can contact customer service, but they will just leave a message with the PM (if he didn't call me back when I called him, why would he when cust. serv. reps from Wherever, USA tell him to?). Nothing but the product quality separates them from anyone else, so weigh your options. Power is NOT cheap. Bottom line - OK company, great salespeople (personality- and effectiveness-wise) and products, poor customer complaint resolution, fair cleanup (looked great, but super unhappy about finding HUNDREDS of nails in our lawn), average lifetime warranty. I put that I would hire again because YES & NO are the only options. I chose YES because I know more now and I do think they sell superior products and there are loyalty discounts. If UNDECIDED were an option I'd have chosen it. As long as everything goes great, you'll be happy. If not, best of luck to you."

"During a recent heavy rainstorm, our porch roof started leaking enthusiastically. I found Anthony Mitchell (Tar Star Roofing) through Angi and I’m so glad I did. He was able to come by that very day and inspect the roof. He was very upfront about cost which I appreciated. We were expected another round of rain at the beginning of the following week, so he rearranged things to be able to fit me in just 2 days later. He completed the work within one day. Throughout the process he gave me updates on what he was doing, and explained everything clearly. While inspecting the property Anthony noticed that the railing on our side deck was coming loose, causing a hazard to the cars parked under it. He very kindly secured it for us, and didn’t even charge us. I will definitely hire him for future projects!"

"I had a small leak. Sprague quickly diagnosed the need for a very expensive roof repair. I also had a skylight that was dripping and decided to replace a group of four skylights. The work was spread out over a longer time than anticipated, which Sprague said was due to unusually wet weather. As far as I can tell as an amateur looking up at the roof from a distance, the quality is good but only some winters with no leaks will confirm that. They put some rather conspicuous shiny white concrete in one small part of a strip of gray concrete but said it would eventually weather to the same color. The substantial problem came over the skylights. My existing skylights came with retractable shades for those summer days when sun shining through the skylights could be blistering hot. During the initial conversations, we focused on whether we would be able to use the old shades or would have to replace them. When the job was done, there were no shades and they were emphatic that the shades were not included despite our detailed conversations about them. The wood just inside the skylights had been replaced and needed to be overlain with higher quality wood and painted. I had assumed, based on our conversation, particularly about the shades, that doing these things was part of the job. But I didn't explicitly write the shades into the contract. Regarding the wood, they pointed to a sentence deep within the many pages of the document that left me responsible for any inside work. I had seen that but never imagined that the wood they used would have to be covered up with higher quality wood before it could be painted. I was quite surprised, particularly when I found out that this residual work, requiring a carpenter, a painter and a shades specialist, would cost several thousand dollars. I felt stupid to have relied so heavily on the conversation and to have signed off on something that only a professional would understand. In the future I would recommend having a specialist lawyer review any contract. It would have been much more professional of them to clarify at the beginning how much would remain to be done after they finished what they understood to be the job. Finally, a small thing: They didn't clean up carefully. Left in the yard were things like a roll of what looked like insulation, thirteen pounds of copper nails (I weighed them), and other stuff. I didn't feel comfortable throwing all those copper nails in the trash, so they sit in my garage pending possible donation to some workman standing outside Home Depot on my next trip there. Because of a previous experience with Sprague, I made a point of asking them to be sure to take away the advertising signs they had placed in my yard; they promised they would, but they didn't."
