"Upgraded to a 200 Amp service and added a lockout switch for a generator. He did an excellent job with the work. Biggest problem was working with the town and he was always communicating the status of the problems and able to work them out. Very good customer service."

"Cawiamca Heating, Cooling, and Electrical was professional, knowledgeable and nice from the very first call. The owner Ron came out within a day to scope out the project and provide very reasonable quotes. From there, he quickly scheduled the install of the new Furnance and had his team out very quickly. His team worked diligently, were knowledgeable and very nice. They were efficient and clean during the install, leaving no debris leftover. I would highly recommend using this company as I know I will continue to going forward."

"Ron and his team have been a real pleasure to work with. I had water damaged in my master bath that turned into a master bedroom floor replacement, a lower level drywall replacement in 3 rooms and a complete master bathroom remodel. Ron worked with me through every step of the renovations. From initial inspection to renovation ideas to improve the functionality of the bathroom. Put me in contact with a great design specialist for materials for the bathroom. I have worked with other teams before and they can not compare to the high quality and professional attitude of Ron and his team. I am a bit of a perfectionist and noted things that I wasn t sure about but Ron s team or Ron would quickly answer my questions or work with me to improve the design and/or the things I wanted done differently. His team noted small things around the house and took care of them without asking or adding cost to the project. I had a few pieces of drywall tape in other rooms that had started to work there way off and his guys redid them and paint the area. Ron and his team have made this project very easy for my family and I. They are efficient and have a true art for their trade. They produce a high quality product. They always maintained a clean environment while they are working. Ensuring that they clean up their work site at the completion of everyday. Respectful and polite during every conversation. Work with me to answer my questions and fix the issues I note throughout the project. Returns phone calls quickly normally within a few minutes. Or he will come over to the house to answer my questions in person. And show me his thoughts so we can brainstorm the best results together. I would HIGHLY recommend using them for any home improvement project you may have. I will definitely be using them again when we decide to move onto the next home improvement project. Great friendly company of professionals."

"If you are looking for an excellent electrician, start with this company first! I found Ben to be knowledgeable and professional. He did an inspection of our electrical issues and came back promptly and took care of the repairs. He made sure that everything was safe. I also feel that he did not overcharge me. He promptly provided a report to the Bldg Inspector, which was required for occupancy after our fire."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Niantic, CT

A whole-house surge protector blocks voltage spikes from lightning, grid issues, or even large appliances before they can fry your wiring or electronics. By diverting excess current at the main panel, it shields everything from your HVAC to your phone chargers and can extend the life of pricey appliances. Homeowners in storm-prone regions or with older panels see the biggest payoff, but any home that relies on sensitive electronics benefits.

Most whole-house surge protectors work for two to three years. Low-level spikes—too small to notice—hit your panel every day and slowly wear down the internal components. Once the unit’s capacity is depleted, it can’t prevent a larger surge, so plan to replace it on schedule (or sooner if a major lightning strike occurs) to keep your electronics and HVAC equipment safe.

A surge protector begins guarding your circuits the moment an electrician snaps it into place. Whether the spike originates from a nearby lightning strike or your fridge kicking on, the protector shunts the extra current to ground before it can reach outlets or hard-wired systems, such as your AC. That instant response is why a small upfront cost can save thousands in appliance repairs.

The unit mounts on or next to your main electrical panel. Type 1 models sit on the supply side, catching outside spikes before they hit the breaker. Type 2 devices snap inside the panel and tame surges that start within the house. Either way, placement at the panel lets the protector guard every circuit at once.

Plan to swap the device every three to five years—or sooner if you upgrade your panel, add high-demand appliances, or notice flickering lights and tripped breakers. Relying on a maze of power strips is another red flag that your current setup isn’t keeping up. Replacing the surge protector at these milestones keeps your electrical system on safe footing.
