"We had our 25 yr. old central vacuum system completely replaced. Colonial Vacuum did a great job, scheduling the work quickly and doing it without any mess or bother. They even gave us a free gift of a wonderful little space heater! Would definitely use them again for installation or service."

"Damion with Kohmar Air Duct Cleaning came to my sister’s home on May 13, 2019, to inspect the system and offer an estimate for duct cleaning. Less than three months prior, Bradley Mechanical had cleaned the ducts after a complete mold remediation of the home, but there were unusually high dust and mold levels in the weeks following. This was very odd because the home had been completely clean and dust free upon completion of the remediation. Damion, certified by the NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association), immediately saw something wrong. There were no holes in the basement duct work where Bradley’s crew could have inserted their vacuum. Damion said that a number of holes should have been drilled for a system that size. He suggested a video inspection, where a camera is run down into the ducts to record their condition. Despite a very tight schedule, Damion was able to fit the video inspection in on May 23. Brian Kohring, the owner, also came along. The results of the inspection were astonishing. The photos showed that the basement duct work had not been cleaned at all. Damion and Brian kept in touch with me via cell phone calls, texts and photos that afternoon and throughout the evening. They were at the same time kind and supportive with me and appalled with Bradley Mechanical. Damion has been immensely helpful and empathetic throughout the entire process. I can’t speak highly enough of Damion and Kohmar. If I had investigated duct cleaning as thoroughly as I read up on mold remediation before hiring a contractor, I would have recognized the value of the NADCA certification and hired Kohmar instead."

"Service was above and beyond expectations. After a quick consultation via e-mail I set up an appointment for the following week. The technician showed up right on time and was very courteous and knowledgeable. The old TV and wall mount was quickly removed. After some discussion we decided to install a new larger back box in the wall behind the TV to hold some necessary equipment. The technician had to go to the office the retrieve the new box, since he did not have one with him, and returned a short while later. The installation of the box, the new wall mount, and TV went smoothly and the technician even covered the holes from the old mount to avoid a draft. I would highly recommend this provider any time and will definitely use them again in the future should the need arise."

"They finished the job, they gave me an invoice for labor and repair & they gave me one number. It took them 3 phone calls to get the breakdown of the bill. They apologized and finally sent me a breakdown. They did however, do good work."

"Excellent! With previous alarm companies, I had issues with my system not communicating with the monitoring center, or with components within my house, because of weak signal strength. Because they are a local company, Jeff and his team knew what would work here. And my monthly monitoring fee is lower than with the national corporations."

FAQs for central vacuum repair or service projects in Norfolk, VA

Central vacuum systems are a smart investment for homeowners, offering powerful cleaning performance and reducing noise levels in your home. They efficiently remove dust and dirt, lowering your daily maintenance chores. Plus, a professionally installed system can increase your home's value to interested buyers and make cleaning tasks simpler. Regular upkeep extends its life and functionality.

When choosing between cyclonic and filter central vacuum systems, opt for cyclonic units if ease of maintenance and simplified operation are critical, especially in secondary residences. For households with asthma, respiratory issues, or multiple pets, filter systems are recommended because they allow the integration of HEPA-certified bags and filters to ensure superior air quality and effective dust capture.

A central vacuum system lasts at least 10 years and can remain operational for up to 30 years with proper care. Regular professional maintenance, consistent filter replacements, and thorough cleaning of the in-wall piping ensure continued performance all year round. Consistent servicing by accredited professionals addresses minor issues, safeguards its operational integrity, and maximizes your investment.

The decision to repair or replace your central vacuum system depends on comparing repair expenses with new installation costs. Repair costs remain significantly lower than the expense of installing a new system. It is most cost-effective to restore functionality through professional repairs, except when critical components such as the motor or major electrical parts fail, which could justify replacement. If your central vacuum is over 10 years old and requires frequent repairs, it may be time to invest in a new system, too.

You can tell your central vacuum is clogged if you experience reduced suction and poor cleaning performance. Begin by checking the hose for a lack of suction and test each outlet systematically to locate any blockage. Consistent low suction indicates a clog within the system, and immediate inspection and remediation are required to restore reliable cleaning performance.
