"The work was quality work and he gave a lot of thought to the needs for the stairs. He was very professional and friendly. He did some other odd jobs the next day and they were well done also. I will hire him again when the need arises. Thanks TRP!"

"Marcin OF Martin Hardwood Flooring did a fantastic job! The floor looks 100% better then when they were first installed. There were spaces between boards, chips where the finish was gone and lots of dents. the wood came with a very high polish which showed the imperfections and Marcin made the wood look fabulous. He finished the work in two days and we decided to let the finish cure an extra night so on the third day his crew came to lift the stove, rerigerator and table back into the kitchen. His price was the best out of four and if you want someone that does a really great job, he is the person to hire. Doorways, cabinets, and counters were all covered with plastic! I could not have asked for more of anything! Padding rugs were even put down for the temporary placement of my stove and refrigerator in my living room."

"Marcus showed up on time to look at the damage and give me an estimate. He was very professional and performed the work promptly He and his laborer did a great job and cleaned up very well. I will have him put the air conditioner into a side wall in the spring when it's warmer. I am very pleased with his work. He also did a couple of very small jobs for me at no additional cost which I appreciated very much. I am more than happy to give him a great review and to recommend him as a contractor."

"Oscar and his crew did excellent work on our basement remodel. We are so happy with the finished product. He offered great ideas on how to make the space functional for our three kids and all of their toys! I had just had our third baby during the renovation and Oscar and his crew were very efficient while they were working. Oscar built a beautiful built in wall storage unit for the kids toys along with a beautiful storage bench and laundry folding and storage table. They are custom and make the space unique. His carpentry is excellent. We plan to hire 360 again and highly recommend them!"

"I hired this company to lay wood flooring throughout the house, to refinish the stairs and to replace all banisters and railings. I couldn't be more please with how this project came out. The people that worked here were professional and did a phenomenal. Hands down, some of the best people I've worked with. They showed up on time, the quality of the work was fantastic and they left my house cleaner than when they started. I was so pleased with everything and everyone related to this job that I called them back to renovate my kitchen. They are the only company I will use going forward. I was lucky to find them."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in North Aurora, IL

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
