"We had a new gunite pool/spa completed in August 2013 for about $45K. Both contractors I considered were close in price, and I selected Calvary based on excellent reviews that I now realize were not for gunite pools. Initially, we were very pleased. About two years after installation, Calvary repaired a broken PVC pipe underground (for free, out of warranty) that was attributed to significant heave in the ground. In April 2017, about two years after that first repair, we discovered a leak between the spa and pool on the opposite end from the first repair. We had to drain the pool so they could use their power tools to break through the stone surrounding the spa, coping tile, plaster and gunite to get to the broken pipe in the wall. Since the leak specialist discovered two of the spa jets were glued in and had to be removed by force, we fixed that installation error at the same time. I asked Jon this in email: "The movement we noticed (and near the first leak) was on the opposite end from the spa, but the side with the spa doesn't seem to be having a movement issue like that. We watered (under restrictions in the last few years) but is there something we can do to minimize movement to avoid this? I am getting advice that problems with PVC pipe in a pool this new is unusual." His response: "This is not unussually considering the movement you guys have had. Its unfortunate, but uncontrollable. The pool passed a multi day sit at 30 psi inspection before gunite was shot, the plumbing was left under pressure until the decks where poured. If it where a problem with installation or the scedule 40 PVC used, it would have failed before now. You may want to ignore the facts that you have had severe ground movement, but the facts are the facts regardless of what information you are getting. The last leak was caused by ground movement and we fixed it even beyond the warrantee period. The pool shell cracked and prestige gunite fixed it, you have had ground severe ground expansion causing uphevel on the deck. The ground shifting is clearly the issue, any other claim is a extremely far stretch. Your not the only pool in North Texas with these issues, there are tons of full time leak detection companies that deal with this daily, new and old pools." After that, I stopped asking for his advice and found a leak specialist. I spent $1,300 to repair my almost five-year-old spa. I do not recommend Calvary for a gunite pool build."

"Overall good! The personal attention and customer service is WHY we wanted to go with Brock. Although this is a smaller pool, the design and details are often just as complex if not more so than an average pool build. The overall beauty of the pool is astounding and gets many compliments from friends, neighbors and visitors. The fireplace on cool nights is so beautiful and the gas heated pool can be enjoyed year-round. As with any project there are always challenges. For us, the deck was the most difficult piece. It created delays in overall construction plan as you will see in the next sentences. The first challenge were the planter holes. They needed very special barriers because of the bamboo. Since this was not fully understood, pool pipes ran through the planters and the bamboo barriers had to very heavily modified compromising their integrity. Next the pool deck did not drain fully and today has areas which hold thin pools of water and dirt. Brock worked with us extensively to mitigate and change the drainage and we were appreciative. However, today, they are still there and collect water and dirt but can be cleaned with broom or water hose."

"I was nervous taking on a big project like this. With Mike, I knew exactly what to expect and didn’t feel pressured or misled. That’s saying a lot when it comes to a big project like this! It turned out beautifully and has all the features we wanted for a fair price. Can’t live in Texas without a pool. But don’t get a pool unless you’re hiring these guys."

FAQs for swimming pool in ground build or installation projects in North Richland Hills, TX

Installing a lap pool at home offers you the convenience of exercising whenever you like without needing to travel to a gym. It's a great way to stay fit while saving time and money. Plus, lap pools take up less space than traditional pools, use less water and energy, and typically cost less to install and maintain. It's an excellent investment if you value health and convenience.

To install a lap pool in your backyard, you'll need to consider the type of pool you want. For a traditional 40-by-8-foot lap pool, plan for at least 50-by-10 feet to allow room for decking. If you're considering an endless pool, you'll only need about 15-by-8 feet. Don't forget to account for other outdoor features you might have or want, like a swing set, shed, or garden. Planning your space carefully ensures you get the most enjoyment from your backyard.

A 40-foot lap pool is a great size for most homeowners. It provides enough length for a good workout while fitting comfortably in many backyards. Of course, the ideal size for your lap pool depends on your available space and budget. Consider talking with a professional pool builder to determine the best size and design for your needs.

Lap pools can be a worthwhile investment if you plan to use them regularly for exercise. If you enjoy swimming laps but prefer the convenience of staying at home, a lap pool might be perfect for you.

Keep in mind that lap pools are longer than average pools, typically around 40 feet, so you'll need adequate space in your backyard. While adding a lap pool can increase your home's value by about 7%, factors like the materials used and maintenance can affect the ROI. Also, potential buyers with young children or those wanting a traditional pool might not find a lap pool as appealing.

Fall is the best time to buy a lap pool. During this season, pool installation companies often offer special deals and savings to fill their schedules as business slows down. By purchasing your lap pool in the fall, you can take advantage of lower costs and ensure quality installation before the next swimming season.

To maintain your lap pool, regularly check the water level and add or drain water as needed. Test and balance the chemical levels to keep the water safe and clean. Inspect the tiles and surfaces for any damage, and promptly remove debris with a skimmer. Regularly vacuum the pool and clean the filter to ensure everything runs smoothly and your water stays crystal clear.
