"Had GLP perform a panel upgrade as well as install a level 2 EV charger in the garage. Carlos was extremely responsive and accessible. Very helpfully walked us through every step of the process from estimate to completion, always explaining the work he was doing and answering our many questions. Then, the work itself was high quality. Also very friendly in person. Highly recommend."

"Outdoor electrical outlet kept tripping the GFCI frequently but with no apparent pattern. Couldn't tell if it was the items plugged into the GFCI, the GFCI itself, another GFCI on the same line, or something else. The technician was very methodical in his approach and was able to identify the problem as a bad underground line between two of the GFCIs. Not an easy one to solve. The wires were inside metal conduit but somehow water had gotten inside the conduit. Once the cause was determined, he knew exactly what needed to be done. The technician was professional, easy to talk to and did an excellent job. Pricing was very reasonable. I am very pleased with the work and would call them again for future electrical needs."

"Both the work and technician himself were exceptional. We were really happy with the consultation and range in offering. The only down side was cost. We purchased a unit that has a market value of around $150-$200 and our bill was over $600. This means that to install the unit labor was $200 or above per hour."

"Start to finish the A To Z Electrical Company is the best electrical team we have hired. Millie is such a pleasure to work with. She is efficient, courteous, and friendly. She helps to make things work seamlessly. Bob Iovino understood exactly what needed to be done and did everything in a professional manner. He squeezed me in although he had a very busy schedule. He is courteous, friendly, and in no time he had the job done and it was done right. It truly was a pleasure doing business with him and the company. We recommend them highly."

Small jobs welcome

"I recently hired Jose from Elite Power Electrical Services, LLC to install an EV charging station in my garage and handle all the necessary wiring to my electrical box. From start to finish, Jose was incredibly professional, kind, and honest—qualities that really set him apart. He took the time to explain everything clearly, completed the job efficiently, and left the workspace spotless. On top of that, his pricing was very competitive. I couldn’t be happier with the results and would highly recommend Jose to anyone looking for reliable and high-quality electrical work!"

"Alex called me within an hour of me submitting my job on Home Advisor on a Sunday night. Very understanding, very approachable when I trying (and failing) to explain my electrical issue. Alex and David came out that next morning, quoted the work, and returned 24 hours later. They took three hours to do the work (they quoted 4-5). They were reasonably priced. I've already added their information to my phone - they will be my go-to electricians moving forward."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Oak Lawn, IL

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
