"Jim with Plugged In Electric tackled our work like a true professional. We needed a service upgrade from the original construction standards of the 1970s, to facilitate the installation of an electric vehicle charger. Jim handled all the permits and coordination with TEP. He also found non-code wiring of our heat pump that was placing excessive load on the breakers resulting in a very real fire risk. All of the work was done in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend Plugged In Electric for professional service and quality workmanship."

"terrific! It took Day Star about an hour to locate where the break in the circuit was (in the wiring behind an old smoke detector). Two other Angi-highly-rated companies had failed to diagnose the problem. Day Star squeezed us in early on their schedule. The two person team was friendly, professional, and super skilled. I'm hoping to keep using Day Star for all future electrical issues that may come up. From our experience they are absolutely the very best."

"We had a long list of very specific requests: installing new light fixtures and switches, removing canned lights, repairing broken rocker plates, even hard-wiring a Mexican tin star as a light. From the beginning, Melissa got us scheduled on our preferred dates, Joe came out on a weekend to give an estimate, Ryan and Mike used their incredible electrician skills to overcome our challenges. We are "over the moon" happy!"

"Fabulous. Dispatched service tech Charles Gamez when directed by my home warranty provider. I alerted my home warranty provider at 9pm, the provider assigned Bill Richards Electric LLC to the job and the very next morning at 8am Bill himself called me and arranged The tech to come by the following morning. FAST RESPONSE! Had a GFI that would not reset and had a dead Christmas light circuit. Charles was very courteous, professional, and methodical figuring out the problem. Fixed it handily and also provided some advice for a few questions I had on other related electrical matters around the house. Bill Richards Electric LLC is a small company which is GREAT because few employees make for high quality and excellent collective knowledge base. Will hire again for sure!"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Oro Valley, AZ

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
